Lift middle row of seats, look for any rust under there, also around the outer seat belt mounts, that go into the wheel arches.
Also a good opportunity to remove the inspection plate, in the floor near the rear offside, so you can check the pipes going into and out of the fuel tank. Maybe a brush down and some waxoyl onto the tank fittings will help.
Warning... these bolts on the inspection plate can shear.

Where do you think the water was getting in?

Hope it helps,
Rustic

Thanks guys :thumb2 this is how I checked for leak!

It's coming in through door seal at top and also at bottom of tail gate where the black plastic scuff trim starts

Rustic, thanks for that, I have covers those bolts in penetrating fluid so hopefully will have made a difference by the time I've finished checking the other stuff!

Here is how I adjusted rear door, put tension on it then slacked bolts, door moved then tighten again, got a good result :thumb2

While the cover is off, soak them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GT85, WD40, anything!!!!!! When I removed mine on my 2004, I broke 2 :(

Used Rustics trick of undo, tighten, undo a bit more, tighten and it worked a treat, honestly though, take your eyes off the game for more than a second and you've snapped it

Be very careful!!!

Will do, I've sheared bolt for seatbelt that goes into arch today, off to nissan anyway :(

What do you think rustic?, I think a bit more of a scrape, some rust converter then some underbody seal with waxoyl in it should do the trick!!

It needs a good blow with an air line, or better with a vacuum cleaner, personally I would use straight waxoyl, rather than the underbody seal.
It is not in a high wash area, ie will not be washed away, and it will soak into the bolt threads too, and it only needs white spirit to wipe down in a year or two.

Waxoyl the bolts and the edges of the inspection plate.
I always have a few jam jars of waxoyl so when ever you are working on the car, it is ready to hand.
