Importations requirements of the French authorities.

Any help or advise on this question from a prospective member in France.

I would like to inquire of your members, if anyone can tell me, where to check a Terrano and what to look for to find the E.U. compliant certification/kite marks on the vehicle.

id have said theyd be ok being built in spain,we have a french/ex pat member he was posting about radiator prices a while back.
uk car would be rhd surely a spanish lhd be easier?

I remember when we were told that UK Spec cars were the best in europe???? or was that just so they could charge us more cash.

Why does he not get one from Spain where they a left hand drive, why does he want a right hand drive?

All the glass on my wagon has various marks on it, and it is mostly St Gobain glass, guess what? Its made in france, so unless they have UK/EU specs in the factory, I'd say he doesn't need to worry. All he'll need to do is fit LHD headlamps as far as i know. Doesn't need to bother with beam converters when he does occasionally comes back to the UK either.

terrano for sale on here aswell.the ducks the man to talk to he had the left hooker in spain so knows a bit about eu rules

The garage I worked for used to send brand new rover over to France. The only things we had to do if the custumer asked was change the headlights. I would think he'll have to change the rear lights to get to fog light on the left hand side but thats it.
From my hot hatch days I know the french will not let you tune up your engine, the most you can do is an air filter & exhaust swop but that can still get you into bother 8O chips, cams etc are a big no no :roll:

I used to haul glass for various companys around the Uk, loading from these places and St Gobbys were always in queue to load too. Not that it has anything to do with this thread, its just nice to know that the UK does export stuff to the French.

please remember we are all in the EU and Cars etc are to the same standard. thats what its all about.

Just thought of something else why does he not buy a T2 from la Belle FRANCE :wink:

:!: I have said this before in previous postings you need to take aphoto of your VIN plate send it to Nissan in Rickmansworth Hertfordshire they will then foe a fee issur a certifcate of compliance.

I impotrd a LHD to this country so it must be the same to Export one to France

Thanks mates for all the info and jokes.

Yes I'm an ex-pat mixing my time between France and the UK. The reason for considering importing a UK Terrano is that they're about 30% cheaper at home than here in la belle France! BUT the French are particularly sticky about them conforming to their vehicle specification. (We may be all in one Europe but nobody seems to have told the French that.) A friend brought a Jap import Shogun to France from the UK and whilst they're allowed unmodified into the UK....not so in France. He had to change ALL the glass and lenses as well as seat belts that didn't have the kite mark AND he was still stuck with RHD. That was my original reason for asking about markings.

However, I did the sums and decided that it was almost cost effective, given return travel/ferry/insurance/French registration costs, to buy one in France - so I did (a left hooker of course). I also joined the club and have saved some dosh already by doing so. Thanks to all for the help.
