As some of you may know my business supplies South Yorkshire Police. When I was in one of there transport garages the other day I was chatting to one of the mechanics who was working on a Terrano 2, he told me about the following problem and its "cure".
It seems the front crossmember, the one that supports the front diff is prone to cracking around its mounting holes, particularly on the offfside. Nissan are aware of this apparently and have produced a weld on reinforcement panel, though I don't have the part number for this. There is quite a lot of work involved in stripping down various bits to be able to weld this on but probably less work than would result if the cross member collapsed at speed.
So next time you're under the front end of your truck have look and check the crossmember around the mounting bolts.
