Hi guys new to the forum and just got my first Terrano :) Car is a 1999 Nissan Terrano 2 TDI SE Tourer

Installed a new radio last night and somehow managed to blow the internal light fuse.

When I put a new fuse in the engine management light is flashing and the immobiliser light stays on. Tried keeping the key in for fiteen mins, removing battery etc.

None of the above seemed to work.

Any ideas on how to work round the immobiliser or reset the thing so it works?

Cheers for any help.

Steve

The ecu is behind the dash, u didn't wire it into any other loom than the radio loom/obvious radio connections did u ?

No there was no 12v on the battery wire to the radio so I linked it across to prove the radio was working and blew the fuse.

When I replaced the fuse I found the battery terminal loose. Once that was all tight the 12v battery to the radio was ok and the radio worked.

Then I couldnt get the car to start. The red light stays on and the engine warning light is flashing.

The plug for the radio was the same as the one I was fitting so I only had to plug it straight in. Who ever had wired it before had done a shoddy job so I remade a couple of wires but nothing got changed.

Cheers Steve

Trace your work back, undo what you did step by step.

Try as you go

Tried that had the radio out, as there was no radio when I got it...

Also chacked all the wires and they all seem to be ok, I never changed anything just made them more tidy and remade a few one by one as to not mix anything up.

Rac guy came and said it needs to go to a nissan garage... He "never had the lead" to connect and find the fault... What a waste of time paying for that lol...

Removed battery and will leave overnight but not expecting it to work tomorrow.

Removed radio again and had a good look around where I was doing the wiring and its all as it should be.

If I got a diagnostic lead and software from ebay could I recode the NATS system myself?

As I said though if there is a work round to link out the immobiliser I am willing to do this as it seems the much easier and cheaper option lol.

for some reason the internal lights and radio share the same circuit i think, i done the same thing when i fitted a new radio first time

you can get a lead and beginners software that will read codes but that is about all, the all singing and dancing stuff s megabucks, and there is no work round on NATS 2 which is what you have, NATS 1 I used to do a lot for bangers, I have a TDi for off road use only and am trying to find a work round but been told it is not possible, but what I have found is the imobiliser is not coded to the ecu as I changed the IM for another with a matching key and all OK, do you have a plip for yours, if so does it lock and unlock the car? Rick

flashing mil light

sorry to say its dealer reset only, ive been having intermitant mil flashing fault. if i turn ignition on it flashes defo wont start if it came on and stayed it would start . dealer only software, nissan software unavailable anywhere else so its main stealers only:eek:

Yeah the car unlocks and locks with the remote fob fine.

OK if your dash light is on solid this usually means the key is not recognised I think if you search on here there is a method of reprogramming the key to the immobiliser, I had hopped that using the plip may have got round that, as an afterthought try putting the key in the ignition (off) and use the pilip again if that does not work turn key to next position and try again and so on you have nothing to loose, Rick

as in the download section, the reprogramming of the key would`nt work, i tried several variations in case i read it wrong, i got it to work by turning 6 times in 10 seconds wait for lights to flash hold red lock button press black unlock button 3 times then release, then lights flash to show its programmed. the download says the opposite buttons to press. so if it dont work as the download try as above. Thanks guys I will print these out and try them in the morning :thumb2

thanks Pete, but that one is for the plip, before I joined the forum I got a new key from Nissan and had to take the car to them to have the ecu programmed to the new key (all keys are unique and fixed for life) then I joined the forum and am sure I saw a download that meant I could have done it myself and saved some dosh, that is the one I am after, but I am useless at searching, Rick

Put the battery back on this morning and tried the guide (both ways explained)

This only seemed to reprogramme my plip and not reset the fault on the MIL or take off the red warrning light on the top of the dash.

Guess a call to Nissan in the morning is in order to try see if they can do anything.

Also retried the, key in ignition for 15 mins, red light on top of dash goes off, turn off for 5 secs and try restart method again. Still wotn turn over and now starting to flatten battery lol.

Any ideas how much Nissan will charge me to reprogramme key and immobiliser etc and if they will come out as I can't get the car to start to drive it there :doh

it should turn over but not fire, if it is not turning over this is a different fault altogether, I think I paid £30 for Nissan to program new key but that was at their workshop, but I think there are mobile firms around that can do it, Rick

Yeah thats what it is doing, turning over but its immobilised...

Will ring round tomorrow see if anyone can come out if not will have to get it towed to the Nissan garage.

I will be doing exactly the same as I now realise I was using the wrong key and it started briefly for a few seconds (three times) I thought it was air problems after checking the mini filter thing, but now discover after three it locks out and the key needs reprogramming to the ecu/immobiliser, hope to get a local guy out, soon as I get some info will post it, Rick

Well local Nissan were most unhelpful, and when I said it was a Mav they said they cannot do it any way as they would not have the codes, what wally's, rang a guy mobile locksmiths in Brighton and he can do it for about £70 got to ring him back about 1 pm to arrange, Rick
