After just under a year of Shogun ownership (during which the damn thing had operating 4wd for about a month, chewed up 3 wheel bearings, four tyres and almost all of my tolerance!) I've come back to the joys of the Terrano. My new wagon's not with me yet, as a) I still have to pay for her, and b) she needs to be transported from her current home to the Frozen North :augie

I've had a few trucks in my time, all of which have tested my patience and mechanical abilities. I have to be honest though, and admit that the Terrano is the one out of all of them that I've missed the most!

Pics to follow once she gets here sometime next week :thumbs

There is the odd one of us (very odd) that realised how good these trucks are and still has it after 21 years. :doh:doh

At the time of purchase, we looked at the Frontera, Discovery, sport track, etc, we test drove the Terrano, and settled for the Ford Maverick as we preferred the grey interior trim. Probably the best decision we ever made, mind you, we are not ones to change, we have had our boat over 25 years too, 19 years on the canals of Cheshire, 6 on the Norfolk Broads, and we are now planning to move it to the Thames in Oxford, as due to failing health we have not stayed over on the boat for nearly 18 months. We visit our grandson in Oxford every week, so we hope to use the boat more.

Welcome back mate, have you gone for another 3.0?

Cheers fellas :thumb2

Banshee? Yes mate, there are plenty of 2.7s out there, but I loved the 3.0 I had. I was seduced by the SHogun after the issues I had with my last Terrano, but i wish I'd just kept it and spent the money. Lesson learned!

I have to admit, I've driven Blocky's 3.0 on a few lanes and the engine just purrs, feels very refined and not as audible as the 2.7, I can see the appeal but I just burn too much veg to justify one :naughty

Cheers guys. I'm picking the truck up from somewhere in Leeds next week. Ive been unbelievably lucky in that he new truck has only done 39k miles. She's getting MOT'd as we speak and I'l get the train down and drive her back up :thumb2

Here she is

Wow that's nothing!!!!!!! What a find

Probably the best most sexiest terrano ever built:lol:lol
If it happens to be 3ltr too, well, you've won the lottery :clap

It sure is :D :clap

My last Terrano had only 38k on the clock when I bought it. I put over 50k on her before I traded her in for a shiny black automatic Shogun. I think I'll be keeping this one for a looooong time though. I've been really lucky with them :bow

It's not luck mate

It's just top quality Japanese R&D :bow

It has all the attributes of a superb 4x4.

It's silver, long wheel base, and 3.0litre.

:augie

To tell you the truth, I wasn't sold on the colour to begin with as I prefer darker-coloured wagons (my last Terrano was dark green, with the grey trim. And the Shogun was black) The more I look at it though, the more I like it

Well, once again God has vomited on my duvet

The 'new' truck has failed its MOT on the chassis frames needing welding, so I've run away screaming

Test-drove another promising one this evening, but their was a helluva rattly whine in 5th. Seemed to be coming from the transfer box (I could feel the vibration through the lever) The dealer's going to put it into a gearbox specialist tomorrow and get back to me. It was a decent driver apart from that. . . . . .

The quest continues . . . . :nenau

That was a close call and the 2nd one could be a blessing in disguise

When I brought my current one there was a god awful whine coming from the tranfer box and you could feel it through the transfer lever when up to speed if you rested your hand on it. It was after I noticed this that the transfer lever didn't operate at all and was stuck as had never been used by the looks of it. We got it up on the ramps at work, removed thne guide plate, banged it into 4WD with a lump hammer and freed it up with some fluid, re-fitted the guide plate and it's been fine since, no more noise :naughty

Use that info to barter him down if you can't get it into 4WD

It went into 4wd just fine (and low range too) It only made the noise in 5th, and disappeared when I lifted my foot from the throttle. Truck drove really nicely otherwise (apart from a slight whine in 3rd at higher revs). I hope he gets it sorted as I liked it a lot. Had a couple of scuffs and scrapes but hell, it's 12 years old! It was a bit over the top price-wise at £2950, but I'd bid him at around £2500 and be happy at £2650

If noise in 5th then a major box problem, ie box out strip and repair, lots of pennies I am afraid, but does depend on what sort of driving you do, fo me for instance 90% of the time I cannot use 5th so would not bother me, but if you would be using it regular it is a gear that is under more stress than any of the others as it drives faster than the input shaft, so will be more likely to fail with a bang, Rick
