Hi all the ignition switch has finally gone on my Maverick!! wont even start with a bit of key wiggling as it has for a while now. Is there a guide for replacement anywhere and can anybody tell me where to get one from and how much it's likely to cost?? Its a 1994 2.7td
Cheers Rich..

you could try one of the breaking boys, see if they got a working one.

you just been the contacts on the back, not the whole bit with keys.

yep, id go to one of the breakers, very likely youll get one, all you need is the switch off the back, rather than the whole barrell. All you do is remove the switch from the ignition, and swap with your broken one. To remove the ignition, you remove the steering cowling, and the ignition is attached via a clamp, remove that and you have full access OR just remove the switch itself in situe, tiny little bit fiddly, but very easily done, thats how I did mine.

When ours went, got the switch part from Ford, only cost £36 odd, ours is a tdi though so I don't know if it's the same.

You could try taking off the switch unit, taking it apart and see if its all intact before you get a new one. Had one that was getting very odd and when I took it apart found that the copper pieces and spings inside had come out of place. Since I reassembled it and put it back together it has been fine. On the one I had it did not look like there is actually much in them to go wrong as there was no electronic switches in there only ballbearings, copper plates and springs.

I took mine apart, Could never put it back together. Didn't want to risk it doing it wrong. Got one from a scrap terrano for £2.50 down the road.

You should of did a guide for others.

Thanks for the advice so far but does this switch need to be off a terrano or maverick as only one breakers anywhere near me in Coventry and no terranos or Mavs? Cheers Rich

The one I took apart was from the Mazda truck but I thought they might be all fairly similar. If I could have got one for £ 2.50 I wouldn't have bothered taking it apart. If I have to take apart the T2 switch I will do a guide.

You could..............Take the conections of the back of the switch for the ignition part and use a push button start. you will still have to have the key in and in the correct place, for it to start. we have one on the 03 Terrano, the reason for it was if we swap the whole thing it has to be recoded, so we just by-passed it. (I say we, they guy down the road did it for her)
