had a phone call from virgin media asking me if id like my broadband upgrading to the highest level for free ...... bit of a silly question really innit ? ..... of course i would , after telling me all the benefits of it and telling me about my new virgin box too i was getting excited :thumb2 , then they dropped the bombshell .... its gonna cost me £49.95 for the box and £49 installation ..... im alleady a virgin customer why should i have to pay for a new box ?

I think there is a bit of a con involved in all subscription TV packages, I'll stick with freeview :thumb2

What speed are you on at the moment as im sure that they only charge if your upgrading to 50mb service .And also remember if you do im sure you are then on another 12 month contract

im on 20mb , they said an engineer would be coming and fitting my new router , hub and box

Yeh thats rite as im on 50mb services myself and a different router and modem is needed(mainly the modem is needed).Depends on what other services you have with them as you might be able to get a better deal.Personally i would of haggled and got the installation for free as they stated it was a free upgrade when its not.

You dont mate, they tried that one on me when I upgraded from normal Virgin TV to the V+ HD box and 20meg cable. After a bit of gentle persuation and a lot of telling them I will leave and go to Sky (which of course I woudlnt have) they gave it me for free

Just try your luck mate, they give you no end of stuff if you can be a bit cheeky on the phone

you dont NEED the V+ box for yoru internet. your 20Mb internet will be upgraded regardless this year, and you probably wont need a new modem. I have to say though, the V+ packages they are offering ARE good value, so personally, if I had the money, id go for it. You could probably get some more stuff out of them too such as wireless adapters, router etc, then sell off yoru old stuff..

probably yes, although you probably dont need the hub, but you might as well have it. Look, if they are setting it up, then demand they make sure you can print (as your current setup allows it, they cant break it). There wont be much faff mate, its a piss easy job for the engineer to do.

Phone them back, tell them you dont like the way its been done and you are going to sky or freeview.

The decent deals will come tumbling out of the woodwork.

Weve got one of the fastest internets (not sure which one) , all channels except sky sports , a v box , two other boxes and a nifty phone package. We pay just under £50 for all of that thanks to my wifes marvellous haggling :kissy (we only paid for installation of one of the boxes as well but that was on offer at £12)

Go for it :thumbs they NEED the business.

as clive knows , this laptop is almost 3 years old and is very high spec even today ... 4gb ram.. 320 gb hhd......t5750 dual core processor .... i think it will cope

the laptop will cope, its 100 MBIT, not 100 Megabyte. The wireless will connect at 54/108 upwards, thats so no bottle neck. The only bottle neck can be the WAN port, which generaly is 10Mbps (megabytes per second) but this is usually enough, the router deals with the data/traffic efficiently enough to cope, Peters gear ismore than capable, and hell probably notice a big difference, especially when downloading/uploading (photos especially)
