Hello everyone. Hope you're all doing well. I may be renewing my membership soon as my old Maverick has come up for sale. The clutch is completely shot apparently, but for the price they want I can't let it go to the crusher - it's just too nice.
Not sure yet if I'll be fixing it or breaking it myself, so watch this space - either for lots of clutch related tech questions, or a big for sale ad !

Hi Jim, nice to be remembered ! Glad to see you're still here. My mate clever trevor has had a look at it and reckons the thrust bearing has gone right through the plate. Not sure how he worked that out without removing anything but he did say the fork was out as far as it would go. That means nothing to me, the only clutch I've ever done was on a C Reg Montego, and I made a right balls up of that.

Well if you have to pay a garage to do the clutch a rough figure will be around £300, mine cost that much a few years back. Probably be able to get it done for a bit cheaper. I do know that Solarman says they're a heavy gearbox and from what I remember he finds it easier to remove engine.

Remove the engine Last time I did that I was breaking an older maverick and it took me 9 hours and at least three different sweary words. I'll have a ring round tomorrow and get a few prices for fitting. And then there's the oil leak.......

I've often wondered what I'd do in that situation, it will be interesting when you get it back to see if you notice the car still has some of the behavioural traits that it did when you drove it last :lol

I'm still undecided what to do with it. The MOT ran out the day after the clutch went so I don't have much idea what else is wrong with it. Towed it home this afternoon. The steering is a joke, the steering wheel seems to have very little to do with the direction the wheels are going. The brakes are almost non-existent, it's got a bit of rot at the back end of the sills (the inners were welded at the last mot) and the wings have now started to bubble. Such a shame, it was almost rust free when I had it last. The interior is going to need a few hours to get it looking smart again, and then there's the oil leak.....

Better pay me tenner I think. And hello to the rest of you , really glad to see you're all still alive and kicking :thumbs

Nice to see ya back again and as for the truck all it needs is a bit of tlc.

Are you handy with the spanners? If so get it jacked up at front end (and on axle stands) and then take a good look at the steering links, centre drag link and the idler at the passenger side.

Wheres the oil leak?

Probably wont fail test on an oil leak unless it was bad. Then tow it to Ricks for the clutch and you should be able to drive it direct to an mot station if you get some insurance.
