I know why you need to remove the sump guard etc when doing an oil change.

Changed the engine oil and filter yesterday, thought I would do it with the lower covers still on and protect from leaks from the filter, did the work from the top, after several failed attempts with the oil filter strap, I decided to see if it would come undone by hand, with rubber gloves, since it was warm, and it did.:thumbs
So I wiped up the oil from the area and I was proud that not a drop went onto the lower plastic tray.:thumbs

Wow great, I then set about removing the rocker cover checked tappets,
Job done, re assembled, tightened the front screws, ..... sides....rear... Ker plonk..... 10mm socket slips off the socket wrench, falls down the back, drops onto the tray, ..... Screw driver head.... does the same..:doh
The reason is those damn rubber gloves, tangle around the end like an elastic band and when you remove the wrench the socket flies off.

So off with the covers, with the spare 10mm socket, and retrieve all the tools:clap

Covers now off for the week so I can drain the rad, engine clean, etc de- rust and apply YET more waxoyl before the real winter arrives.

Does any body else have problems with rust on the lower wishbones, despite waxoyl, especially the inside? Still plenty of metal left though:augiei

Better make the tea, can hear the wife getting up.. busy week..
Best regards, Rustic
