hi again i have turbo it is coming in at 2000-2500 revs and sounds quite normal, trouble is there is no extra power,
done the :
egr download
the small fuel filter download
new fuel filter
new air filter
new oil and filter

going to use some comma egr valve cleaner sprey up the air system tomorrow, apparently this wil clean the air flow route the valves and egr valve.

anyone know if this will work, or maybe you have another sugestion ?

any help apprecieated thanks :?

Have you checked ll your boost pipes for splits - may seem obvious but worth a look

to be honest and i now feel really stupid for not checking, but i will now

i dont really understand how a turbo works ... i know they are really good fun when you have 2 of them like in my old 300zx but thats it

is there any diagrams or something available

but really throw some ideas at me i have the day off tomorrow to look with a friend

If you're not really used to them it might be functioning correctly, real life is not a video game, there shouldn't be a sudden boost, the power should ramp up gently, yes there will be a point where the power starts to increase but not an on/off effect like with a video game turbo boost button.

Twin turbo set ups tend to be for "V" engines or straight 6/8, for a four pot theres no real advantage. Your old ZX probably was a bit more switch like, petrols tend to be, partly becasue they suffer more from turbo lag - really you need someone who knows these trucks to drive it for you.

ok, well of the turbo diesels i have had

renault master dci120 you know there is a turbo there you can feel the extra power

vw lt35 turbo diesel you know there is a turbo there you can feel the extra power(the old ugly type not sprinter)

fiat doblo tdi the same

landrover freelander still drive td4 its got turbo but massive turbo lag since new (absolute crap)

my maverick tdi is like the master fast and responsive excelerator wise and the turbo has a much more distinctive noise ( like a petrol turbo)
but very similar to the master dci120 for performance

petrol turbos rs turbo , gt turbo , 300zx all petrol turbo's so no comparason

its the terrano td on a l reg thats the one that has the turbo problem you can hear it coming in like the maverick but nothing extra is happening its like driving my old n reg renault traffic diesel it goes ok and it drives as you would expect from a diesel (its just like a straight diesel not a turbo diesel) its just not getting anything extra from the turbo and it just drinks stupid amounts of fuel, my maverick is returning 3 times more mpg

a td makes about 99bhp versus a tdi 125, oh petrol makes 125 too, so
old un is 20% down to start with and probably flatter for it.

not had chance to drive one to compare but sure someone on here will have experience of both engines. ok same engine, outputs then.

Turbo Problems

After reading this, I think I could have the same problems!
Slow, not much pick up, heavy fuel use, etc, etc, not at all what I expected when I bought it!
So, How do you know when the Turbo is working?
T243

The turbo is relatively low-blow on all the 2.7's and doesnt come in with a wallop, nor do they whistle much but it should noticablely pick up over 2000rpm.

What mpg are you getting, any/ much smoke, and how many miles on the car / service history etc?

I would say a good tune up will improve it, as per my post in another thread.

As a guide, my chipped and fettled TDI is doing about 33-35mpg solo, and 25-29 towing (3 tonnes)

update

today we took the air hoses off , to find about a 2mm oil coating on the entire air passage from the rocker blower hose (adjoining the air box) down to and including the inlet manifold, now this brings me to the day we bought it it had a really dirty wet oily air filter on that we changed on the way home . now this new air filter that we fitted 4 weeks ago has remained clean so what ever has been going on has been for a while.

now as the new air filter has remained clean for around 4 weeks my new theory is that it had a dirty/blocked air filter and this caused it to suck air through from the engine pulling oil with it too and clogging the system in oil.

now this is only a theory but im thinking if its an oil seal in the turbo gone it would have coated the system in oil but only from the turbo back to the manifold... unlike what i have i.e from the air box back to manifold. i have cleaned what i can but its going to need a full strip down in the air system i think... now what should i look out for on the turbo and stuff

You should have slight lateral play in the turbo shaft, as they float on a cushion of oil when the engine is running. Spinning it should result in no rattles or grating. There should be very little or no axial movement.

I would suggest you remove and clean, or replace the PCV oil separator, & vent hoses and have the valve cover off and check the roof of that where the pcv system connects to is free of muck also.

Crankcase pressue due to a blocked PCV system is not good.

I would check your breather system as I found mine had a faulty oil trap & the turbo was sucking oil up the breather pipe into the turbo. I got around it by fitting an oil catch tank to the breather & vented it to air instead of the induction pipe which I blocked off
