hi all . my t2 has just started to knock from the front end while going over uneven road even manholes covers . really any bump . i changed the anti roll bar bushes about 4 months ago and the track rods , ball joints upper and lower . plus compression bushes 2 weeks ago . what could cause this and just in case what joints on the rear can cause knocking just incase its from the rear

front shockers/bushes.just double check that everything is nice and tight.

On level ground, take the handbrake off, if safe to do so...:nenau
With the driver's door open, rock the car hard by pushing upwards at the top of the door opening...

You may hear all sorts of creaks and groans.
Click... usually ARBs,

Note..
If the handbrake is on, you will get clicks from that, but I think that is normal when rocking like this...:augie

I wonder... if the front drive shafts are fully engaged, they have a circlip (snap ring) on the end of the shaft. Front hubs off to get to the wheel bearings is the way to get to those, depending if you have auto or fixed hubs.
If bearings have been adjusted, or new front brake discs, both require these snap rings to be removed, and they might have been distorted and come off.
To test for this, go underneath, and with hand pressure only, try pulling the shaft from the front hub, and checking for any play as it might move around.
Don't do this unless you have the time to sort it there and then...:doh
You never know..

Other things to look at are... front cv joints, prop shaft UJ's.
Loose change in ashtrays, and junk in the glovebox...

I haven't done them yet as you got to buy the whole shock . I think I will have to check everything again like you say

I had a dead arb after 2 months so defo possible, worth having a nose underneath, if the arb is gone the rubber will be sitting out of its hole quite likely. :thumb2

I tried to get the wife to bounce the car while I looked underneath . more she tried to get it to move the more she did :clap :clap more more :lol . so I bounced the car got it to knock and all I get from the wife is it's from the front some where . :nenau

My bet is usually those pesky ARB Linls, did you chance complete link or just the bushes and for that matter what about ARB D bushes?

Unless it's a loose guard somewhere, we have a pesky rattle from somewhere, been going on for ages :nenau

I had the same, I layed under the car and pushed it up to make it bounce a bit, it was the ARB drop link.

I did change the drop link about 8 months ago but then 4 months ago I changed the bushes for the arb and drop link for poly bushes . last week I done the comp joint .

here is a update . even the wife heard the knocking yesterday ?. it sound tinny she said she could here from her window and I heard it from mine . I have checked every joint at the front . all I found was a loose wheel bearing and when I tightened it up the wheel got very notchy . so I know the wheel bearing as had it . but I can't find what the hell is making this knocking/ tinny noise . any help please the other things I can think of is the exhaust shield or exhaust

ARB Droplinks are such a weak point on these cars

Can't wait to get my uprated ones fitted when my washers arrive from Elty :clap

If you have double checked everything underneath , have you checked in the engine bay for anything loose.rad shroud battery airbox etc.Loose or worn objects don't always make the sound that you always expect, just a thought. .

I had the exact same issue. I searched for days and it turned out to be the hub cap on the drivers side front wheel. :augie

I have had the hub cap off when I took the wheel off . but its not the arb bushes or drop links . as I have changed most rubber bushes for the poly ones plus changed both ball joints track rods and the comp joint . the only ones I haven't done is the shock and upper wishbone because they look and have been checked out to be fine . I'm going to getting out there today if it stays dry and try to find it again from engine bay to the rear . :bow

sorted it was the drop link . the bit that goes on the arb had about 1mm to tighten up . at least I sorted my wheel bearing . thanks for all the help
