Just an update on the replacement for our old r3mR its a 2.7 Petrol Santa Fe Auto and "She who must be obeyed" took her to Windy Skeggy for a few days break with the in-Laws.
She did 300 miles with a lot of traffic and running about and managed 24.5 mpg, not as good as the 28 mpg when she went to France for the booze run but still better than we managed in the old r3mR and of course petrol is a tad cheaper than propper diesel.
We have spent a few quid on her with a set of 4 Continental tyres, replacement rear wheel bearing, cambelt & aux drive belt change tensioner, rack gaiter and ARB links. That sounds a lot of work but we bought her reasonably cheap well inside our budget. It's a 2 owner vehicle with nice leather interior and pretty tidy body / paintwork.
Replacing the ARB links has not cured all the front suspension clatter there is some noise from the upper suspension mounts at low speeds on poor road surfaces. As you need to remove the struts to replace these I will wait until next year when funds allow and probably replace the struts at the same time. Not sure if the MoT in March will pick this fault up and cause a fail.
We love the smoothness of the engine and and general quietness all round and in many ways its like driving a car. We miss the higher stance of the r3mR so in a few years time we might go for a Terracan if we can find a low mileage automatic.
Everything works such as cruise control, aircon etc. My only gripe is when you close the doors it sounds rather tinny on the inside - more dustbin lid than smooth fridge door sound.
