Hello guys and gals just joined today after having a very helpfull conversation with your man PLANK cant fault the guy really helpful we have an 1999 2.7 van at the moment which is on a wing and a prayer i really want a new un, tried to talk the mrs into planks but she wont have a white one....:nenau

now just got in from work and been talking to a guy at work who says his neighbour is selling a 3.0 terrano not sure how much yet, can any of you peeps tell me if the 3.0 versions are as good as the 2.7
its a commercial he's selling are they as good or better anything to look for
any info would be great thanks in advance:thumbs

hi

3.0 generally sorted by time got into terrano, up on torque and power
but be mindful most of big jobs take longer due to more stuff round
head.

eg head gasket replace is 7 hours 2.7 and 13 hours on 3.0

To be honest I'd stick with a 2.7

I was all for 3.0's until I did a bit more research and they dont seem to be as bomb proof, saw a bloke the otherday with his wife as I pulled off a carpark and he had a silver 3.0 same as mine (mine is a 2.7 but his looked identical) he had moved from a 2.7 to a 3.0 and said he was going back to a late 2.7 as he prefered the gear ratios and torque for towing his caravan and general driving

I also recommend a 2.7! - a nice white 2.7 lol

the 3.0 is more powerfull but the same engine in the patrol has been a costly mistake for some members and i wouldn't chance it. I also think the old tried and tested 2.7 sounds a lot better when running :)
welocme to the club!

:confused:Hmmm food for thought, gonna have a look at it this weekend but dont want a 3.0 if going to be problematic oh bugger dont know what to think now:rolleyes:

Hello guys and gals, just a quick question, a friend of a friend is selling a swb 2.7 T2 its done about 80,000 miles only problem is its towed a caravan for a lot of those miles should this be a reason to stay clear or is it nothing to worry about, thank you in advance for any input,,,,,:thumb2

I wouldn't worry about the mileage other than the likleyhood of a clutch needed sooner than later possibly. The engines are good for galactic mileage if serviced and oiled properly :thumbs

yep my 98 2.7 has done over 200k and a few years of that was towing :D:thumb2

agreed! 80k is low milage for a T2. and a bit of towing is nothing to be scared of though bear in mind late 80s is often time for a new clutch.
