what is the rate per hour your local non franchised garage charges,
why i hear you ask (or mabey not) just curious if the are regional differences 8O
ssteve :?

my normal garage for mot/servicing etc is £25 per hour, just been to nissan today who are £70 odd per hour!!

same here my local garage is £25 an hour and they collect and return the car to my work for that

i work for a garage in aldridge westmidlands we also charge £25 an hour we also do a collect and delivery service

Around here it's about £40 an hour & £90 an hour at a Nissan Dealer 8O 8O 8O All prices inclued VAT

£25 an hour sounds cheap to me based on what a lot of my customers charge.

I pay £35/hr for commercial work on my van and consider that to be reasonable. Hourly rate isn't always the be all and end all though. the garage I use for the van seems to barely if at all mark up its parts and consumables where a cheaper hourly rate will be marking up their parts more and perhaps charging for every last 15 minute period where will be a bit lax. Mine for instance only charged me £50 for a class 7 MOT which is a couple of quid under th max allowed but didn't charge me anything for the few jobs they did to get it through which include welding an exhaust bracket.

The key IMHO is finding a garge that are trustworthy and honest, a place that will only tell you something needs doing when it rally needs doing etc and that actually gets the jobs done quickly too.

The guy I "have been" using wanted £85.00 + VAT (he is aone man business) to change the starter motor and told me that it was only a 2hour job   went and saw an old school mate from 35 yrs ago had a cuppa tea reminiss about the old days and a bit of a laugh and he sorted the job for NOTHING so I am going to start doing more DIY so stand by guys and gals the duck only has left handed spanners  .

Local rural garage who have worked on the Maverick now charge 37.50 an hour ... as far as I'm concerned worth every penny ... they've exceeded my expectations ...

Hello Zhorian,
Why not give them a mention as i am sure there are plenty of members willing to travel a few miles for good honest service and especially at a very good price.

My guys a landy specialist, (ended up going to Boston USA for a comp as one of the best landy apprentices in the UK.) always find him usefull, even getting me bits trade for me to fit. Said he'll come greenlanng when i do if there's space. At £27/hr inc vat he can get dinner, especially with the work i've pushed his way.

Alrighty then .... they're A1 Autocare, Old Petrol Station, Offord Cluny, PE19 5RQ - 01480 812218 - Chris on the 'phone and 'the two Richards' running the shop .... The Chuffinator - my ancient Mav - sailed thro it's Mot this time as a result of their tender care and purrs like a kitten ... but check that labour rate I've just worked an invoice out and get 38 quid an hour.
