Hello everyone
1998 2.7TDi R20 engine BOSCH set up

PROBLEM : intermittant power loss, similar to fuel starvation

I should know better, but I let the tank get VERY empty !

Now I have random power loss, similar to fuel starvation
( surprise surprise !! )

Wastegate checked and is freely moving
Wastegate actuator checked and also all seems ok
Not found any holes in any pipes

No.1 injector sensor giving 101 Ohms
Crank sensor reading 920 Ohms
MAS giving 12v 1 v and 2v as expected
MAS is clean and air filter also clean

No MIL codes showing on dash

Main Diesel fuel filter all clean / no water contamination etc
Pump BANJO filter DID have some particles, but cleaned and all ok
( I thought that was it ! )

QUESTION ... is there a lift pump in the tank connector ??

Question ... is there a filter in the tank connector ?

..... I'm considering blowing through the diesel lines with compressed air, but I am at a loss to understand the problem at the moment.

Yes the problem started after re-filling the tank, .... but I cant find anything wrong now ????

Any ideas ???

Thanks Guys ...TOSKA

There is no lift pump in the tank but there is a filter, blowing back with an airline will clear it.

I trust you have fitted a new fuel filter?

If you remove the mini filter banjo and screw it back into the pump and crank the motor you should a single fine jet of fuel indicating it is clear.

next to the front banjo (it needs to be removed) is a two sided bolt, this needs to come out and check the piston for free movement, this is the pump pressure regulator, if fine dirt has gone through it could be sticking, this will give lots of problems, Rick

Thanks Rick ... amazing knowledge as always !!

Yes new main diesel filter fitted

The particles seen on the banjo filter looked like shellac ..... they might be some sort of varnish crud off many years of diesel .....

I'll blow the feed line back towards the tank, re clean the banjo and try the rest .... I'm also considering ANOTHER in line filter just before the banjo on the pump

Oh, buy the way I have also washed through with a can of diesel purge whist all this was going on ..... best as I can tell injectors seem OK ...

I'll let you know

Hello again all !

it took nearly 2 1/2 months but I now seem to have all working OK again :clap

after much cleaning of filters and fuel lines / checking of electrics and such I seem to have fixed the problem

I changed the MAF sensor and all is now well !

No codes / no dash lights / it took a long while to sort !!

Thanks as always to all you who gave good info
