DONT GET A DISCOVERY!, life is actually worth somthing, don't ruin it:doh

I also consider a Land Rover to have the edge, though they also benefit massively from a rear locker. Overall though (and having come VERY close recently to flogging the Mav and getting a Disco) the Maverick delivers in other areas, like build quality and it's not massively disadvantaged off road. Those front wishbones are the biggest weakness compared to a Landy I reckon, as they're always lower than the centre of the wheel.

Not quite right there mate. The landie doesn't have a locker fitted as std . IFS gives a much higher clearance under the front of the T2 than the same wheel sized landie.

I thinlk the difference is in how much money you need to throw at either to make a decent offroader.
eg Terrano, spend on some +2" coils and wind up the suspension and you have an instant 3 wheel drive green laner (nearly, LSD)
Raise the landie 2" and you still have a 2 wheel drive green laner with less money in your pocket.

Further down the line though the landie will win ofcourse as it's got live front axle and oodles of add ons off the shelf to feed ones habit accordingly.
The T2 will need a lot more DIY tenacity to keep up then :thumbs
PS nearly every thing stuck yesterday was a disco

Sorry. I wrote that badly. I was saying they benefit from the FITMENT of a rear locker. I felt like my Rangie would have gone anywhere with one of those fitted. It was absolutely awesome off road and much, much more comfortable than my Maverick. Shame the interior plastics made Kinder egg toys seem the height of engineering.

Not sure I buy the IFS height argument either as the wishbones and guard both detract from the Maverick's height. S'pose a Landy's diffs do too, but that's only a small percentage of the width of the vehicle, rather than all of it. I may have to get the tape measure out!

Well I took her out for a play this morning.
A mate took his disco along too.

The Power of the discos v8 was defiantly more impressive than my mistral.
Buuuut I managed to get a LOT of places the disco couldn't! :thumb2
And mostly because of not having the landys diff that kept getting stuck!
:thumb2

Didn't come away without some battle scars tho! :lol

power is not always the answer, looks like you had fun, did you hit a tree? I bellied on a bit today and had to do a short winch that the Rangie that I extracted earlier went over with no problem? Rick
