Sounds like my sort of plans... great idea.. oh, but there is a simpler way...:lol
I had to use Shottcky diodes, in the caravan, as I wanted a conditional charger for the battery, but the van has a 12volt power supply when on mains that not only charges the battery, but runs stuff in the van if there is no battery.. Couldn't have both in parallel, as the "Intelligent charger" got confused, by the other charger, but it did not have sufficient output to run the pump etc from the flashy one if the battery was flat... ended up with a Diode so that the intelligent charger is on the battery, and the diode blocks any feed from the other power supply getting to the battery.
I put the Diode in between a plug and socket, so that I can easily take it out of cct, and re-connect the whole thing as was should anything go wrong. I also have a second diode wired up in a second set of plug and sockets, so it can very quickly be replaced should I kill it.
