Hi just wondered how you test a glow plug as when I start for cold I get some white smoke, also are they easy to change ( complete novice ) , I also have a misfire when you Rev it don't notice this when your driving though , could this be due to the glow plugs ? Any help much appreciated, Ian

You can either test it for resistance with a multimeter in situe or remove it and try the old jump lead trick :sly

Negative on the body then touch the end with the positive and it should glow instantly

As I found out yesterday, measuring the resistance is only an indication, mine "Measured" fine, but when we took them out and put them across the battery, they got very hot, but did not glow red hot at all.

The only proper way is to take them out, and using a 12volt battery, stick them across the terminals, holding them with a pair of pliers, and see if the end actually "Glows" red hot. This takes about 2 to 4 seconds, if that. Red hot in a timely manor means they are working fine.

Have a read up on here about the glow plugs, there are some very good tips, like using a "T" bat to undo them...

I just used a long reach 12mm socket and kept it dead straight :sly

All 4 of mine came out easy peasey after a soaking of GT85, they looked like the originals, I looked through all the invoices for the car which were very thorough and detailed and couldn't spot any plugs every been fitted
