i am considering replacing my upper wishbone bushes with poly ones at they are worn.
can anyone who has done these before tell me if you need a bench press to remove the bushes? or do they just push out by hand and slot in?
t.i.a.

ask extreme4x4 or makeitfit.

Im sure both have done theres

I didnt know you could get polybushes for the top arm:augie
They're meant to be some kind of nylatron or something self lubricating and pretty rufty tufty too I think:nenau
I've done mine but that's because I've got calmini top arms.
Knock the ball joint off, take top nut off shock and pull out. Undo two huge nuts on the end of the pivot . then undo the big bolts into the sub frame.
Getting the bushes out is a challenge though :lol Getting them back in is even more of a challenge and really needs a press thingy:eek:
Are you sure they've gone, cause it's a challenge you know :thumbs

Got a set of upper wishbones here, neither of the were fail or advisory items on the recently failed MOT.

thanks for the reply

thanks for the reply.
after reasing your post i think i will seek a second opinion and take it to a garage for him to check the bushes.
with his experience he will be able to tell if it is worn, also which buses are the worst.
it may be false economy in this case if i buy and replace unneccessarily bushes which might even be fine.

yes, you can get poly bushes, ive heard with volvos they solve the tyre wear problem (my other car is a volvo) and that there well wirth relacing with a poly set.
i saw them on ebay from poland, and in the uk you can buy the individually for the roll bar, etc.

bushes

ill rephrase that...
i put my crow bar in and levered it to find a wee bit play.:doh

ive noticed my camber isnt right on my wheel, thats why it is wearing on the inside. so i suspect the upper bushes.
ive just got some new drop links today which i amgoing to fit now.
hopefully i get some cheap second hand tyres tomorrow depending how cheap they are.:nenau

i would suggest its more likely to be the upper wishbone ball joint than any play in the bush.

i got mine polly bush . ideally you need to burn and cut the old bush out . the new polly bush slides in easy.

think elty did his too
if i cant find the supplier of mine for you . it might be worth asking him

bushes

thanks for the reply.
so the poly bushes will just slip/slot in by hand?
if that is so, i could probably do the job myself, as ive taken bushes out before. i drill the rybbers out and cut slots along the metal opposite each other then they just tap out.
i am wathing on ebay the poly bushes, for a pair of upper wishbone ones there £18.95 per side.
my wheel is at a camber, and i suspect it them as there is some play in them, i might be wrong though, and you could be right thats its the balljoint.
ill have another look tomorrow when i get my jack, so i can check things out better.
i dare not change the tyres at the moment until the problem is fixed.

If it is the top ball joint, probably is, dont get cheap ones or you'll be doing it again in a month:doh
If you've still got camber issues after sorting bushes and balls, then you'll need to put extra spacer washers behind the top arm pivot:thumbs

thanks

thanks for all the replies it helps me decide.
i got a price of £11.07 plus vat for a top balljoint, qh make. i find qh better than firstline.
cannot get it till next week, so will do a bit tyre swapping around this weekend and check my nearside hub just to see if anything has gone in there. i might even tighten my bearings up a bit whilst i have a hold of the jack.

now where is my wheel locking nut.......... i hope i got one the the car, i havent had any wheels of it yet. !
