House Door Key Barrel

Does anyone know how to change the key barrel for UPC doors? The type of barrel that is keyhole shaped if you know what I mean.

If they're anything like the ones here in France(seem to be a standard style across modern double glazing) then you can get replacement barrels and keys from most DIY shops.The only difference I've found is the depth of the barrels.On the ones I've changed they are fixed with one screw through the edge(jamb?) of the door and are pretty straight forward to change.Don't forget to tell the wife!:lol

These are recommended by West yorkshire police. Make sure you measure the lock correctly or it will stick out or be recesed

As above, you can buy Euro locks from Screwfix or Toolstation.
You can buy them in different lengths, eg 45mm/40mm which means one side sticks out more than the other, so you need to measure what you have.

When you look at screwfix, you will see how the fixing screw fits, in the centre.
You will need the key to centre the pawl that trips the mechanism in order to remove it.
IF... the screw can be removed it is only a 5 minute job.:thumb2

What ever you get make sure it meets or exceeds the requirements of your house insurance.
Once you take out the center bolt tilt the key to 11 or 1 O'clock and pull out from the inside.

Cheers guys, I'm calling at a local security specialist on way home tomorrow. Big &Queer are showing them from £8 to £42, don't normally like quality from the big chain DIY stores so I'll see what this place have. Yeah I'd heard about this bumping to get through those locks.

My daughters school thinks that her blazer has been taken by mistake by another pupil complete with the door key. I ain't taking any chances so I'm replacing it, it'll cost a fortune in spare keys though :doh but safe rather than sorry.

Breaking into a door with a standard euro lock. Shocking how easy it is unfortunately, probably looks and sounds easier than it is tho.

i can do it less than 20 seconds.. easily

inlaw was a maintenance guy for house letting agency and i seen him do it a few times when tennets run off without paying the bill

If you're worried about the security of the euro cylinder lock you will want to ensure you get an anti-bump anti-snap one.
They will be a little more expensive, but the standard ones snap in the middle when force is applied allowing you to unlock the door in seconds.
I fit these for a housing association all the time, we fit standard ones to the flat doors in-case we need to re-posess a property, but the external locks are all higher security.
