so, my horns arent up to scratch, although they work, they arent loud enough. I need to change them for the MOT, so ive ordrered some simple universal Ford ones nice and cheap off Ebay. I had a look at the existing setup, but cant see how to remove the old horn without taking out the light cluster, is this correct?? Dont tell me i have to take the front bumper off....

On my '94 square headlight model you probably would have to take the headlights out, the horns are tucked behind the inner side of each light. You don't have to remove the bumper to take out the headlights on mine, but I don't know about round headlight models.

cheers matey, I think you are right. From what you have said, whats behind the headlights is exactly the same, now all I need to do is figure out how i remove the headlights! :thumb2

why bother removing them? If you've bought non-standard ones just cut the wiring at a suitable point and leave the old ones in situ, then mount your new horns somewhere else and connect them up...?

CLIVVYS GOT THE HORN! :lol:lol:lol

thats a fair point, but, I cant get to the wire without removing the headlights-I cant trace the wire either because it seems to go into a cable tidy tube along with the headlight wires!

or better still clean the connections, so its got a good power supply. you could even put a earth on it direct to the body.... lot less work than taking them out. and costs nothing

its getting to the connections thats the problem, but ive ordered some new ones anyway as they were less than a tenner delivered

If the headlights are fixed in the same way as mine they are a doddle to remove-two M6 screws (10mm socket or crosshead screwdriver), one on the top of the headlight nearest the wing and one on the other side behind the grille (the grille has to come off to get to these). Then a "pop-out" retainer pin on the outside of each light that locates in a nylon ferrule in the wing-these can be tight, so the best way I have found to get them out is to give them each a squirt of WD40, then lever the headlight inwards towards the radiator using a really wide-bladed screwdriver or a piece of flat steel bar, putting a piece of rag between your levering tool and the wing to prevent damage. The pin will then simply pop out of the ferrule. Reassembly, as they say, is the reverse of the above! All of this, obviously, depends on the fitting system used being the same on your later model T2 as my 1994!

ok peeps, I changed one of the horns today as its loud enough to pass MOT. Changind the horn was a peice of piss. First, open the bonnet. now from one side squeeze the clips in on the front grille, the same in the middle, then finally the other side and remove. With the grille removed, you have ample room to get to the horn and bolts using a flat spanner.

Swapped one of mine over, and its tons better, so ill do the other side in summer. if i can be bothered.
