well a kind lady decided to plough dwon the side of the t2 today, damage all four panels.
think side step might have kept her going any deeper that deep scratching and couple of
dents.

insurance firm wants it assessed tomorrow. so will they write it off, lady's partner says
can we keep it private, as only just passed her test. so whilst she didnt admit liability
but she was on wrong side of road passing a parked car late for school pickup etc, he
pretty much has by wanting to not go thru company.

parkers give 1350 trade for a v reg, want me to subscribe for old regs. i reckon it'll
be about a grand for trade maybe.

strikes me, again!, that if i go private unless squeeze more out of em wont get courtesy
car. as it is assessor authed to start job so only thing is want to go away at weekend
with 'van so will need to defer work.

help will i get stung trying to help 'em or just recommend a course of advanced driving
lessons.

TBH if that happened to me I would get the best price off the insurance company (I always reject their 1st couple of offers) & then buy it back off them for prob £500 the end result is you can have your motor fixed & some cash in your pocket:thumb2

heard of that, sounding dumb here how do i buy a motor back, after rejecting their
offers. Presume at this point they say it beyond economical repair heres £xxx, go forth...

They will always give you the lowest offer first, but once you tell them all the work you've not long done on it & their offer is far to low they will get back to you with a better price:thumb2once your happy with there offer just ask them how much it'll be for you to buy the T2 back off them:augieif it seems silly money to you then you can just take your money, but if it seems a fair price & you or you can get it fixed with the difference in money you'll get back & hopefully some spare change then you have that option

I don't think theres anything in it for you either way ...

If you go the insurance route, a quid says after the event she will claim it wasn't her fault but the nasty 4x4 and, with no witnesses you will end up with a knock for knock and a claim history against you.

All you will get in those circumstances is a reasonable market value for your truck LESS your excess. And in that situation whats the point of buying the car back as well? You've still got to get it repaired and that sounds like at least £200 per panel's worth of damage with beating and paint - at least! So you would get £800 for a £1000 truck, less the cost of buying it back (£400 minimum?) = £400, less the cost of repairing it, say £600 at absolute rock bottom = minus £200!!, and thats the best picture - plus of course your claim history....

On the other hand, if he settles privately, what can you get out of him? You need at least the repair costs and car hire just to break even and that could easily amount to more than£1000...

I guess you need to put that together with a bit more thought than I did, front him up with a number and see what he says, but I suspect you'll end up going the insurance route (hopefully your NCB is protected?) in which case, in a knock for knock, you may well be out of pocket for your excess....if not, then at least you break even (car hire notwithstanding if your policy doesn't provide it).

Best bet is to try and provide best evidence of her liability - be objective; overtaking a car doesn't necessarily put her totally in the wrong...good luck!

thanks for that, sounds messy when if they say repair heres a loan car think also said
loan til written off. think will mention to insurance that they want to settle but could
leave me high an dry when pull out. insurer said was knock for knock unless they admit
it but thats if their insurer does really isnt it and they are more likely to fight for equals.

typical no witness, shame as a friend does live almost opposite site. if shes on first year
then what can she expect premium to rise by, r reg citreon xzara versus paying me off.

whats in it for me, well mrs as its her car and a bus for her business, nope think she'll
have to bite bullet next renewal either way and we get temp wheels and either a repair
or a new'un. funny really was looking at alternative motors, same or bigger, t2, patrol,
shogun, 'cruiser...with side bull bars?..

I think your best bet is try for the most economical repair you can find within reason and see if they will pay for that. Its an older truck so its not the end of the world if its not a rolls royce job, but no reason you shouldn't have it back as close to how it was as possible.

Not sure if or how she'd get loaded; quite possible she will just stick at her zero NCB level, so no real penalty to her as such, but they may not know or think that, so play on it.

I'd try being very nice and play on their fears that she will get loaded....and one thing, the more they go down that road the closer they get to admitting liability, even if only by their behaviour in trying to settle off the record.....the worst case you can pursue them through small claims court - it isn't difficult and it only costs about £25....you can do it online and the beauty is nobody can get stung with any other costs, solicitors or otherwise...so if you can, try and out stuff in writing and get a written response....be nice and polite to avoid getting them on the offensive...

thanks again.

its in at approved body shop in morning so presume they will have auth to
repair or write off so things will move quickly. May though its more of my
fuel go via usual garage that does mots and get cash price for job.

guess it will be reported back to insurer outcome and be booked in accordingly.
atleast she is insured my insurer read out their company from the reg check.

buy back is usually 1/3rd of final value of car ...... basicly if they pay you 1200 you can buy it back or keep the car for 400....

in reality you still got the car so they just send you a cheque for 800....

buy back is really only viable if you have a vosa test place near you. as it might need to be certified the repairs are safe for return to road....
you cant drive the vehicle there they really dont like that

thanks Ex, cant see mrs buying that, needs a car every day, plus t2 is ok but not that
special if honest, just a car/truck plenty more out there not done that much to it and
its 13 this year. imagine loan car goes back when cheque arrives.

loan car is risky..... always ask your insurer to insure the hire car fully comp... never trust the hire car insurance.... car hire from insurance claims is often a scam and you end up paying loads for repairs not indicated on the hire forms....

before return of hire car vidio the hire car if you can vidio the man who collects it looking at the hire car

i cant stress this enough get your own insurance for the hire car


they usually give you 7 days after you have cleared funds in your account before return of hire car

Well been down to ADR for assessment nad they've just rung to let me know its
few pence shy of £1350! Not sure if that includes hire car they would provide but
strikes me thats more than likely value...advised 3rd party, well mrs did and phone
went dead when said cost and going with insurer for security. Told insurer that they
wanted to avoid claim, agreed made sound more guilty.

That quote will just be repair work, not hire car.

So it all goes back to whether you want (or are forced to have) a claim on your history. If you've got full NCB then it doesn't really matter but you might mitigate if you can provide enough evidence (road measurements, markings etc..) to force the other party into admitting liability or for the insurer to pin it on them.

But as you say, likelihood is a write-off.....then it comes down to (i) accepting whether the amount is enough to get a new truck, and (ii) is it worth buying the old one back to break for parts (could well be!) or repair on a budget....

But the issue of your excess and whether its imposed could make another
bit of difference.....keep us posted!

already talked, well i listened, lol, mrs needs a car everyday, and i like one too,
so cant see buying back no real emotional link there and plenty, better, out there.
just need to check replacemnet costs in case of w/o so can argue settlement.

full protected bonus, got plenty of pix and can plot accident if need be, rentawitness,
who me never.
