I always haggle my home insurance, just saved another £40

Some insurance companies now offer a discount if you own the house with no mortgage, this was introduced by our insurance company this year, so we were able to save 10% straight away.

I always say I will leave and I quote a few companies ... eg even Kwik Fit can beat your quote lol ....

I am very loyal to my insurance ... yeah right.

The internet has certainly made things more competative. In 2008 we paid £181, in 2012 it was £142, renewed this year with More Than for £96.26 and they were not the cheapest.
All the same cover and excess for Buildings & Contents at £500,000 blanket for buildings & £50k for contents,new for old with limited accidental damage cover.
I have changed company almost every year including Norwich Union, Saga, Rias, LV. It helps that the last claim was in 1989 when we were burgled the treatment I got from Direct Line was so shoddy I will not insure a House with them again. No flood risk in our postcode area.

Mines due next month. If I can get it for less than £450 buildings and contents I'll be very pleased. Aviva asked £650 last year, went with Rias at £480. Not had a claim in over 20yrs. The comparison sites all start low but final quote is two or three times the starting amount. David.

I have unlimited with Lloyds this year around £300, I was victim of a street theft, he stole my keys, so my premium has gone up, first claim for over a decade.

Insurance is a rip off from start to finish, the slightest thing you do not declare and they will not pay out even if it is not relevant to your claim, Rick

I've heard that even if you call to query a potential claim, but don't actually claim, they still hike your premium on the basis that you have created a statistical possibility of a future claim.......disgusting behaviour........circling sharks I think.......:nenau

I was 50 this year so tried Saga and came up trumps! Last year Lloyds was just over £200, this year Saga £89. Up to 500k buildings and 75k contents, individual items automatically covered up to £2500 so no need to list separately.

Lucky you, Saga quote on www was over £280, I will stick with lloyds

Month end searching

Just another tip when hunting for House and Car Insurance - some websites have screen scrapers whatever that means.
I have discovered that if you start looking in the last couple of working days of the month you can often get a better deal as they have met sales targets and drop prices on the basis that extra business is a bonus before the month end.
I have found this can be in the region of 10% better deal even with firms that do not use the likes of Compare the Meercat etc.

My wife also noticed with some holiday firms, that if you show interest in a particular holiday, and review it over a couple of days, often the price goes up.
However, if you start afresh on another device, say your partners, then you are offered a better deal.
She has suspected this for a while.
I guess those cookies are used against you at times.:doh
So probably happens on other sites too, like insurance.

Well its nearly time to re-new and RIAS have bumped my premium to £562, so I re- read this thread and hit the WWW for a better price and ended with Saga( as I'm an old fart ). All singing and dancing for £336. Glad I looked at this post, gave me the idea I was being ripped off. A very grateful David.

Same could be said for the spurious claims made by less than honest customers. :naughty

I can confirm this happens when booking plane tickets. Funnily enough, checking at the same time on windows and Apple laptop, prices shown on the Apple are (sometimes considerably) higher...

Jeep Insurance due

Well we just got the renewal notice for our Jeep and its gone up from £272 for a full year to £801.36 without breakdown cover £683.70 (as a result of an accident in the old Santa Fe they have reduced our NCB from 5 to 3 years).

N.F.U. want £438 including breakdown cover a lower excess and a few other minor frills. The
Co-op Insurance want around £380 for similar cover. Just trying to haggle for an upgraded breakdown cover with NFU before we decide but I have used NFU before and they were excellent when we had the Terrano r3mR.

When I was living in the UK, up until 7 years ago, or so, I was with NFU for over 6 years, always competitive quotes and good service. for all my vehicles, 4x4, or car.
When I return to UK, as I'm sure I will, they are the first company I will go back to for a quote.
