I can see why you have the camera nice and high to prevent interference but can you get a facial shot from that angle without the person looking up at the camera ? Perhaps you have a second one somewhere lower to do this.

If by interference you mean physical and not electrical or radio then that's exactly why I have done it. Before I even specc'd the system I did the typical Zac thing and over analysed all of the crime in the surrounding area as well as what was going on, on our estate. So much so that I've sat and watched hours and hours worth of CCTV footage of house burglaries and one thing that seems to be a common theme was the amount of thieves that were turning up and aiming straight for the cameras, smashing them off the walls and taking them with them!!! I presume this is not only to stop them being identified, but perhaps also re-sale value in the camera if not too damaged and also the fact that some cameras now have SD card slots as extra backup in case of NVR failure.

It looks a very good camera view with a super wide angle for viewing at home or remote viewing on your phone, just asking if you could get a good enough picture to identify someone from that angle?

When I specc'd the system and did my research, I was sure that I wouldn't compromise for anything less than 8MP 4K, I'll upload some day/night footage in full HD when I have all 4 cameras going as I didn't get back home early enough to get the rear 2 on the wall today. The quality is INSANE and I can't stress that enough, so good that you can literally read the brands of car tyres on full zoom outside my house. These cameras are deliberately wide angled lenses to capture the most I possibly can. I'll leave these cameras running all the time at work on my laptop and they are more for prevention and real time monitoring firstly, anything else is just a bonus, our development wide group is so large and connected that I can literally Whatsapp and have a few people at my house in mins if needed or eyes on my house in seconds from windows :thumb2

I originally had both my cameras mounted on my garage roof fascia but in the end I mounted the second one about 4 ft off the ground so it is aiming at anyone walking up the drive or at my front door. This camera has motorised zoom I have set it for full focus at the front (side) door.
As the camera is behind my 6ft wrought iron drive gates (fitted with anti climb spikes) they would have to climb the gate to rip off the camera plus it is covered by my second one as they do this. My NVR is not in the house and is extremely secure elsewhere.

My NVR will be going up in the loft into a 12U data cabinet bolted to the stud wall, if they get into the house that far and get into the door of the cabinet and rip the DVR out then I take my hats off to them and they are welcome to it, additionally, I will eventually have my motion detection triggered footage backing straight up to my Dropbox in the cloud :naughty I have a very big account

I will eventually get us a Ring doorbell too just to add the icing on the cake as that will crucially capture a head height facial of anyone approaching the front door, beauty of one of these is I won't have to run a cable from it to a DVR, just need to power it.

Strangely enough most visitors only notice the one on my garage roof though at night the infra red is a giveaway for the other camera. By the end of the year my lower camera will be even less obvious when the Ivy spreads.

Nice bit of kit especially doing your own hard drive btw.

Nice touch with the Ivy, but with all going on at the moment in the midlands, I'd rather my cameras stick out like a saw thumb as a big massive visual deterrent.

The hard drive had to be spec'd by me, I was going to get an SSD in it but from research online it seems that it doesn't work very well in a DVR so I went for the purpose built WD Purple for Hikvision DVR's :thumb2

Fairly Local incident - could have been nasty.

The weekend before last (4th/5th May)a friend of mine had his works van broken into in Tutbury (Staffs) he woke up at around 3.00 am (Wife nudged him in bed) to look out of the bedroom window to see 4 Males in balaclavas breaking into his van.

The thieves pulled the rear doors off their hinges and began removing around £6k's worth of a lifetimes of specialist tools mainly Dewalt stuff including as Gas analyser for Gas Safe Certification he rushed outside to be confronted by a bloke with a Crowbar who asked him if the car on the driveway was his? He then broke the windscreen of his BMW and put a dent in the bonett.

Wife called Police who arrived after 20 minutes - they were long gone, his missus got the VRM from one of the thieves two vehicles a BMW on false plates. Vehicle tracked by ANPR to Stoke on Trent part way they stopped and changed one of the number plates to a different VRM. Both plates false vehicle believed to be stolen not yet recovered.

One of two similar incidents in the same village overnight. Both his CCTV cameras were stolen unfortunately able to reach when standing on his van roof!

Cracking images B
With a bit of luck my system will be good to go this weekend.
Bosch 1080p starlight with analytics and a Milestone Huskey M20 2x4tb hard drives. It's got a built in 8 port POE+ switch. Bonkers spec cameras, bit when they come up for peanuts you've got to get'em.
Time will tell how good they are..
It's more to see what wildlife comes in the garden than low life....

We have currently spotted one Troll in the garden

All my stuff from Doris cctv arrived today, will unpack tonight.

Kind regards

Russell.

Lovely!!! :clap Will look forward to seeing what you have ordered and seeing your setup

I got my 3rd camera up on the wall last night and have now got awesome coverage of the garden :naughty

3rd and most important camera to me is up on the wall now in the garden and lower down on the wall for a better capture of anyone coming through the gate or the back fence.

It's still high enough that you can't hit it off the wall though even if you did come across a rogue mop somewhere

Great wide angle pics.

My higher camera tends to get a lot of interest from Spiders - the lower one that is easy to reach seems to never get visited by them.

It's now a monthly routine in the summer to de-web the lens!

I have one of those cheap fibreglass flag poles with a fluffy duster taped on the end, and have to do mine about once a month. My brother has tried the things like walnut shell, conkers, and the otjer internet suggestions with no luck, so he has to de-spider his as well.

It's amazing how much a spiders web can block out at night...

Loft Update

The cameras have been in a while now so despite the heat, I thought that it would be a good idea to attempt the loft flooring that I've had in the spare room for about a week and a half now.

I regretted it the minute I started it and was pouring in sweat in no time!! I got the weird bit to the left of my loft hatch sorted first as it's most important, it's going to be housing my data cabinet for the DVR and other goodies.

So I jumped in and moved as much insulation out of the way that I needed to then I loaded the goodies into the loft

Went for 2 cross beams close together to spread weight better as the cab will be going right in the middle of that space there

Then a rough placing of how it will look when the boards are attached, I haven't fixed the boards down yet as I still have wiring to do

Looking Good man! Can't wait to see it set up!

This month the rewire of my house starts and I've got data cable and power running ot the loft so I can move my CCTV out of the spare bedroom and into the loft!

When I have the cash, I will be upgrading the cameras from the 700 TVL's they currently are!

Yuk!!!!! 700TVL :flush:

Deffo get that DVR in the loft mate, I plan to alarm the cabinet and will also be making sure it's locked at all times too. I've also got plans to add some air induction into the cabinet as it does get very very warm up in that loft

The misses wasn't too enthused about me doing the loft flooring until she popped her head in the hatch and realized just how much space I'll be creating :doh

Here comes the clothes!!!!!

Great job Zac, are you itching from all that fibre glass

It's not as bad as everyone makes out, I was up in it on Saturday moving it in just shorts and T Shirt in almost 30 degrees.

It made my arms itch a little but I had my respirator on and that was the main thing

Shouldn't of let her poke her head up... That's vital Mas Space gone.

As part of the rewire, I also have Cat6E being sent to the current camera locations and a few extra places... I will be getting PoE cameras, so it should be as simple as Plug 'n' Play! :clap:clap

Can't remember if I mentioned it earlier on in the thread but I've seen some naughty naughty PoE exploits on commercial properties not a residential admittedly but one of the attacks was done via BT Streetside furniture if you catch my drift

I've gone RG59 shotgun and quality is not compromised at all

Nice one Banshee.
Nowt but straw in our loft...

Quite a few DVR systems offer Cloud Storage some free capacity & extra for a fee. No need to have it in the loft then. My Lorex system gives me a weeks f.o.c. in the cloud if I want it.

That said if you have an external meter box the determined can just switch off the mains!

My NVR will be hooked up to my OneDrive in due course, I have 50GB free that I intend to utilize for motion detection clips only as 50GB will soon fill up!!!

The switch the meter off trick wont work either as I have the camera power source and NVR hooked up to a UPS  With my calculations I should be good for 1hr30mins with the battery that's in it. It means I'll be blind remotely but still capturing footage of anything malicious happening outside and footage will be safe as long as they don't make it to the loft.

Lots of temple of doom type stuff on the way up there for them too :naughty
