I'm not an owner yet - I'm currently on the search for either a doubecab 4x4 D21 or D22 (not Navara).

I dare say this is well-trodden ground, but I'd be very grateful for any tips on what to check on those models, or if you could point me to the relevant thread/s?

The d21 and d22 are navara's most are fitted with yd25 engines which have good reputations for throwing conrods through the block.Many are modified with the terrano engine

I understood that the 86-97 D21s had the TD25 engine, as did the slopey-nosed (for want of a better description!) 97-00 D22s?

p.s. I also thought that the Navara name came in when the shape changed from the 97-00 "slopey"? As stated, all info greatly received.

I bow to your knowledge, but I was wondering if I read your reply wrong, I did not think "all" D21's were Navara's. We have the WD21, which I was told was just a "wide bodied" D21, and that is called a Terrano R3M, and in the past, a guy called Kevin on here, had a crew cab D21 pickup, but again, as far as I remember, that was still called a Terrano, both of which had the TD27 engine.

Cheers... :bow That clears the water for me, as ours is definitely an import and I struggle getting any bits as there does seem to be a lot of confusion over what it "really" is, some sites list it as a Pathfinder, and others as a Surf... I will add Navara to the list of potential donors as well...:augie

So would any UK-sold (i.e. not imports) cars have had the TD25? I've seen a few advertised as such, but I'm keen to avoid an import, or one that's had an engine swap.

Also, how can an idiot (i.e. me) tell at a glance a TD25 from a YD25?

Hi and welcome aboard. Your facts are indeed quite correct cos I used to work for. Dealer when those were around. Sadly however Id be amazed if you found an early one still around. They were reffered to as either d21 or one ton pickups.

Find a terrano engined one, 2.7 will run on cooki.g oil also have it chipped too

In those days they'd of been imported if they were double cabs. Nice looking trucks and the TD25 was far better than the later Navs but seen as most of us use the big brother to that engine.

This is the shape I'm interested in. I've seen a few of this shape advertised as having the TD25 engine, so basically:

- Was this shape sold directly in the UK? Or are these all imports?

- And did they (or at least some of them) have the TD25?

I've read that the shape in link one is essentially a re-vamp of the older D21 (see link 2), and that if you were to strip them back far enough, they're basically the same truck underneath.

In that case cracking looking motor it is a Navara. D21's were different they were the very early motors and to be honnest I doubt that there will be any left on the road tho I did look longingly at them at the time I worked with nissans.
