A big christmassy hello from myself

I'm Nik - i'm 24 and from the home counties, and have been lucky enough to have recieved a clean and tidy 1998 LWB 2.7TDI SE Touring in a lovely metallic red, with grey leather seats. The car belonged previously to my second eldest brother who has had it since 2007. He used it as a family car and it was rock solid. So alas, he bought a people carrier and I was lucky enough to buy it at a complete steal.

It'll be nice to have a car to use that can go over speed bumps. Plus when the weather gets bad the Skoda is useless, 255 tyres + diesel torque = wheelspin city. Plus the salt isn't kind to the genuine BBS LMs!

This isn't my first Nissan though, I have had a Micra Mystique (the colour changing one) as my first car way back in 2003. Then in 2005 I bought a 2001 Nissan Primera SE+ which I heavily modified and won a few trophies at JAE with.

It's great to have another Nissan and it's like coming home - I'll get some pictures of the R20 once I'm on the road with it (laying the Octavia up until the spring). Looking forward to getting some chunky tyres fitted, re-doing all the silver cladding a nice slate grey (Nissan KR2! Have lots of cans left over from the Primera days!) also going to find a later heated leather interior, or fit heating mats to the OEM seats.

First plan is a full service (Diff, gearbox, engine oil, fuel filter, coolant flush + new stat and also clean the IC out)

Is it possible to fiddle with the fuel pump on the TD27i? My mate has always done similar on his Discovery to good effect so I was wondering what the score is with the Nissan lump.

Lovely stuff and thanks for the welcome.

I would like to clean the underside up and paint it in a rust inhibitor like POR 18 (used that on the primera!) for longevity.

Also going to do a full service on it, I downloaded a FSM (had one for my P11) and it was worth its weight in gold.

Feels a solid old thing though, she is a bit wallowy but I am used to a cornerweighted Octavia on Bilstein coilovers and SportContact3s! I understand the cornering limitations and I'll adjust my driving style accordingly. Am I right in thinking the R20 is a body-on-frame chassis? Or is it monocoque?

you have a good solid chassis with a body on top, SWB 8 bolt mounting, LWB 10 bolts, Rick

I notice you have a (few!) 2.4s? I have a lot of family in Canada (born there!) and one of my cousins has a 240SX with a KA24 in it. Lots of tuning parts for that engine, ever been tempted?

I was wondering how hard it was to change the diff oil really, along with the other fluids?! I'm ok with the basic stuff like fluid changes, lowered a few cars and fitted exhausts, intakes etc so I hope it's not too hard, the only time I gave up was fitting the coilovers to my Octavia.. Nightmare. Utter nightmare!

Gotta say though, Nissan don't make 'em like they used to. Although that might just be the smaller cars (Note, etc) as the commercial and 4x4 seems very good. I quite like the Pathfinder.

Thanks for the advice and warm welcome, I think I'm going to like it on here! Certainly a nicer atmosphere than the VAG forums I've been on (willy waving competitions, basically... who's got the lowest car, who has the most expensive respray. Gets tiring.)

rear diff is not a problem as long as you stay with a good limited slip diff oil like Commer, which is a good price, but if you are not getting kick out on wet corners then you do not need to change it, front is just standard diff oil, Rick

Hi i used to hasve an octavia brill car never had any trouble in the snow.
In our village we have a hill that gritters turn round and reverse up to grit & bmw,s cant get upbut the skoda was up it with no trouble (and me truck) welcome roy:thumbs
