HELP111 fuel primer problems

so had the car packed and full off kids ready to go this morning and the terra wouldnt start. iv finally teraced the problem to the red wire that goes into the top of the fuel priming pump being broken, but as im taking it off the black one breaks too:doh:doh. iv stripped the plastic coating back ready to solder them in place BUT i dont know which goes where. please please please could someone either take a photo of theres for me or send me a link of one please. im not sure if it matters and its 50/50 if i guess but i WILL get it wrong. please help.

the wires are only for the pre heater in the fuel filter, i wouldnt thought it would make much difference as it is only a heater element, coil or resister type, are you sure this is the reason it wont start, as with the later models the fuel filters are not heated, but im sure someone will now exactly where they are fitted

thankyou, i assume you mean front/rear of the car? i fitted a new filter yesterday and dont think i primed it properly maybe, although it ran ok last night. i have no diesel at home so removed the filter again and half filled it with petrol and veg oil hopfully this will be ok, next to solder the wires back on and try again., if not il have to walk the 8miles to petrol station and start again

when I did my filter I thought I primed it ok, but I was miles off! at first it started and ran ok but then coughed and died. More pumping on the primer was the answer, I was knackered after. LOL
It's got to be nearly solid, like all your strength on the plunger. have fun

Did you undo the blead screw first

Yes, front as radiator side, rear as rear bulkhead.

Changing the fuel filter...:doh

If you buy cheap... they don't always seal, when they start you will get rough running and plumes of white smoke.

I tried a cheap one once, I ended up buying a Nissan one, pre filled it, primed it, sorted in minutes.:thumbs

As said before, the pre-heat isn't the end of the world for these vehicles, I had to re do mine and strain relief it as the cable puts a strain on the wires.:doh

Pity the original heater didn't have spade terminals on, (1/4" fast on).
here we go again... save a few pence.:doh

it wont like to start on cold veg/petrol mix, fill the fuel filter with neat diesel, prime the filter the air bleed screw is on the side, do it the same way you would bleed your brakes, try not to start vehicle on cold veg, it wont like it ! this weather.. i geuss you not using a twin tank system.

i hadnt even noticed the blead screw, thanks for that. had to get the father in law to take me to halfrauds for some solder (6 bloody quid!!!) so got some diesel whilst out. now to solder the wires back on then fill the filter with diesel, prime and blead.... and prime again i guess?? :nenauthanks guys keep ur fingers crossed for me and if im not too numb il tell you how it went later, vince

phew, all going well (for now) soldered new wires on the pre heater, filled the filter full of fresh diesel, primed , little squirt of easy start on the air filter ande she started second try. think im going to get a decent fuel filter to replace the cheapo one iv just fitted though, any recomendations? also... couldnt find a blead screw anywhere, there is a cast mark on the side nearest the bulkhead but this just tapers off to nothing??? is this where it should be? thankyou for all your help guys, vince.

wELL DONE, from memory its a small plastic plug just give it a turn when priming air will come out if there is any in the filter, close the valve and keep doing the same thing until fuel comes out of it, then all the air is purged, i buy filters from millners cheap enough if you buy other items at the same time, keeps the postage down and worthwile

That screw is a god send!!!! It takes seconds to prime if you remove that first but prepare for a floor full of fuel if you do so make sure you don't do it on your own drive lol

I had no idea there was a heater in their, is t uses with the glow plugs?
