Hi.Joined the club last night and i love it already.Bought a 2.7td 3 weeks ago after struggling to keep a landrover on the road for 3 years!So much work,fed up with it.Anyway,my problem.Driving to work last week and under light load the engine revs went up with no increase in road speed.Got to be a knackered clutch right?I havnt got a pit or a ramp how much of a job is it? Im a bit worried about disturbing the torsion bars,if i mark everything before stripdown and make a note of the amount of thread showing on the adjusters will this be enough? :thumbs

hi walth1, i could be doing my clutch soon, and wondered the same thing,

come on lads, anyone answer this question, better still you might want do the job.:lol:doh
 
There are posts on clutch changes so get searching :lol

I know its the BIGGEST job on these & will take a minimum of 5 hours depending on your D.I.Y. skills :nenau

I think you can forget about marking the torsion bars as you can now reset them :confused:

Drop the cross members & away you go :lol

ring around and get quotes :thumbs
torsion bar cross member and gear box cross member has to be dropped and taken out of the way:doh

Got a quote from mr clutch at £330.00 all in and one days work for them.
 
steve is that including parts?
as a year ago they quoted me £530 with parts.
 
does mr clutch use genuine parts? as i was told they use a patten parts. thats not what i want really, i'll do my own i think, at least you know the clutch is a quality part, only thing is, it might take a couple of months thinking about it, lol, :doh:thumb2
 
i think with mr clutch you can specify what quality clutch you want fitted but they will have to source it and charge you accordingly.
doubt if they would honour a warranty if they never supplied the clutch
 
but would you really trust a fast fit centre to set up your suspension correctly when they put it back together?:eek:
those sort of places generally employ at the basic rate of pay to optimise profit, might be worth paying the extra and going to a place that specialises in 4x4 vehicles just for piece of mind!

no not really i supose, i'll do it myself when i get round to it, lol :doh

if you mark the torsion bars up and count the thread on the adjuster when you undo it all it will go back as is . so safer that way

but if i remember correct . someone took the engine out as it was easier and quicker that way of doing it... terra will remember...

if not toolbox will advise
 
I've not done it but have spoken to a number of police and other mechanics who have and you despite what the manual says you don't actually have to disturb the torsion bars you only have to unbolt their rear crossmember and flex the bars downwards in order to give yourself enough room to work.

That said - its an easy job to reset the torsion bars and if you haven't done it already they probably need doing anyway as yours will no doubt have sagged over time, they all do. Just refit the bars as per the instructions in the manual and reset the ride height back to standard using the instructions in the same. Taking the gearbox out and changing the clutch is far more involved and difficult than resetting torsion bars.

Talk about unlucky my clutch went bang today so my local garage is going to do it for me. Not much choice now as far as cost will just keep fingers crossed. The price mr clutch quoted was all in with two year warrenty £330
