The MIL light has come on on my Terrano 2001 2.7. i have loss of power and loads of blue smoke comes out and wont rev above 3000 revs. It has been into garage and fault code says diesel/air problem, i have tested maf in the download section all ok, replaced fuel filter but no difference, however if i keep priming the button on top of the filter housing if revs fully with no blue smoke, i tried bypassing the fuel filter but engine reved and stopped. any help will be grateful before i return it to garage

there is a common problem with fuel filters not sealing correctly , thereby letting air into the fuel , get a decent fuel filter and try again ..... its something to do with the rubber sealing ring on the inner i think

but blue smoke isnt good ... are you sure its blue and not white or grey ? ... or black even ?

Sounds like air getting into your fuel pipes. I believe they can break down enough to allow an air leak without allowing a fuel leak :nenau

Primer diaphram most likely split. Replace filter head. Check ALL the fuel lines for air ingress whilst you are there- inc the steel pipes that run down the chassis.

This is what the problem with mine was, metal fuel pipes towardsvthe back by the tank had rusted through

i agree, check the filter head and pipes. my pipes had been replaced presumably for a similar problem, i now have big rubber pipes instead of the metal ones.

get a torch, clamber under the car drivers side, look right up behind the sill and the pipes are there, use the torch to find leaks/breaks in the pipe.

UPDATE: renewed diesel filter housing and terrano was 75% better, i then renewed both rubber pipes on the filter housing and bingo all back to normal. Many thanks for all the replies, i can now say i was getting air into the system
