help with engine cooling fan

Help,
the engine/rad cooling fan has become loose have had a quick look but cannot see how to remove it, can any one help, also any ideas on how much another one should cost ( a used one will do )

is it the plastic blades on to the viscous coupling or the coupling itself worn, if it is the coupling then it is a new water pump if it is the bolts to the plastic then likely the plastic will be damaged, if so I have a blade, Rick
 
it is the whole fan which seems to be moving on the spline, backwards and forwards and rocking from side to side

new water pump then mate, the coupling is part of the pump on these, assuming it is not a petrol model, Rick
 
no its an R reg 2,7 diesel what sort of job is it.
also have had another quick look at it, and it is the fan and the metal inner to what the fan attaches to that is loose.
the metal part which has ridges on it i take it is part of the water pump

The ali part with the ridges/fins is the viscous coupling, and is part of the pump, if this is sound then it may be that the 10 mm head bolts have come loose cannot remember if there are 6 or 8, but worth a check, Rick
 
thats my weekend sorted then....:eek: i think it is the pump, because i think the coupling has separated from the spline

easy enough job to do, but take the rad out to avoid damaging it and to give yourself more work space, Rick
 
yeh i have been looking at some new ones trying to price them up, at least i dont have to open up the engine, just seems to fit on the side,
do you know of any workshop manuals they seem as scarce as hens teeth

It's not a hard job at all & shouldn't take longer than a hour to do taking your time:thumb2
 
Make sure that you fit the gasket right as if you don't it will start to leak, make sure that you don't over tighten the bolts either as I knakered one of mine!!

I'd also leave the radiator cowling off as well, gives a lot better access to stuff, just make sure that your top radiator hose is securely attached to something otherwise you'll find yourself with a very hot car very fast.

My water pump fan blade ate through the hose as it was catching
 
have taken of the parts .. they came off easy enough .. have ordered new part so all i have to do now is wait:lol
 
have received the part but have a question.... the old one had a hole for the spline which comes out of the engine block. the new one has a plate over it. the parts supplier states that it is the correct one with regards to the reg number... is there 2 different sorts or is it a blanking place which needs removing
 
there are 2 different sorts which are determined by the pcd of the fan fitting bolts.not sure if the pumps are different just the viscous unit the fan bolts to.
 
the bolts line up fine its just that there is a spline with what looks like a posidrive end on it which looks like it fits into the end of the water pump to drive it. on the on sent the end is blanked off
 
sorted it doesnt fit in the pump it holds the housing to the engine block :doh
