Hi all, I have a 1998 Maverick 2.7 tdi and i have a starting problem, when i turn the ignition i get a click from the relay under the dash but no start the lights dont even dim. I have checked all fuses and they all appear fine.

Im on holiday at the moment and currently stranded in Southport if anyone can give me any pointers it would be appreciated.

Check the battery clip, where the large starter motor cable joins the battery, if it is the original pressed steel clip, thy have a habit of snapping, but you have to look close, as the bit that breaks, is under it.

Starter I think might be wrong.

check the battery earth terminal, under the washer bottle they are prone to corrosion,

I'd check the cable that conects to the solenoid on top of the starter motor as these connectors can become loose, easily fixed :thumb2

check cables before thinking the starter. i'd even have a go at bypassing the main power cable with jump leads.

if it is the starter get someone to bash it with a pole or rod while you try and start it.

Thanks everyone, i checked all connections and ended up giving the starter motor a couple of whacks with an awning pole and it started.

So guess u need to sort out starter before it fails completely:thumbs

Also worth parking on hills facing down, so if all else fails you can bump it.
