Hi and hello everybody.i bought a nissan terrano 2 last week as I thought it would be good for getting my 3 year old to school through the winter and for camping next year. Anyway picking my son up from school this afternoon smoke started coming out of all the air vents I'm at my wits end. Rung the garage where I got it from and they don't want to no.can anybody help or give me a idea of what could be the problem? Thanks in advance annette.

If you bought it from a garage they are responsible, contact trading standards

Thanks for quick reply I've spoke to citizens advice bureau and got to ring them back in the morning. I'm gutted as I love the car

A quick Google suggests that you have up to 30 days to reject the car and get a full refund, but you shouldn't use it.

Someone is likely to come along with a simple solution shortly.

As said above but don't lose faith in the Terrano as theyre great. I wondered if it was the resistor pack for the blower speed setting.

Hi Annette.
Does the blower/fan still work ok?
Does it make any strange noises when used?
Does it only produce the smoke when the blower/fan is used?
What does the smoke smell like?
Without being too precise. Where about in S/Yorks are you?

I no it sounds daft but couldn't really smell the smoke just see it coming out the vents.the blowers still work I think.dearnt turn it back on.I'm in Doncaster. Rushed home from school and it drove ok .thanks

Hey guys. Do think this could be a symptom of a failed heater matrix?
Would it produce steam through the vents? I've had a matrix or two go on me, but never steam coming through the vents :nenau

It could have been valeted and water sitting around the place. Cold weather, heater on, bit of steam.
Any smoke from a car will defo stink, it's all plastic or fuel

Hello and welcome Annette. First on the list would be take it back to the garage if it's only been a week. Wether they're interested in helping or not.

I agree if it's smoke it'll stink like chuff.

Possible heater matrix which would be an expensive job to pay for.

Long n short of it, get to the garage and give em stick but as you say CAB are phoning you tomorrow they'll give you the best advice for sure. If you have the choice and rest of the car is sound I'd let the garage repair it.

They said it was part ex car not there problem they don't know anything about cars they sell them there not mechanics

If it is heater matrix how much would it cost to do please?

Even so, it's not fit for purpose.
Can you give us details of your truck. Age, model, ect

If they sell them. It is their problem.

If you do any work on it yourself you won't get anything from them, as they can then turn round and say "you caused it".

Unless it was sold as a "trade" car, meaning it was sold within the trade, then you have rights.

Did you only notice the smoke/steam only when the engine was hot?
Has the coolant level dropped in the coolant expansion tank?

Looking at how the set up is on these vehicles.
If she was to put the heater control knob onto cold, would this stop the steam as the matrix would be covered by the flap only allowing cold air to pass :nenau
