That description sounds like no1 injector.

I had similar symptoms when my crankshaft position sensor was duff.

find the plug front top left on engine disconnect it (it is the one with the wire that goes to No 1 injector) if you have a Bosch Maf then it should read 100 ohms, if Hitachi then no reading or maybe very high meg ohms, Rick

Checked found 112 ohms at injector .checked fault codes with scanner p1246 can it be needle that is sticking in injector.
Thanks for help

You might try disconnecting the injector lift sensor, if faulty I would expect no significant change.
However, you say the truck is fine until warm, this is a classic indication of the CKPS (crank position sensor) loosing sensitivity as it becomes warm.
Unfortunately measuring the resistance of it is unlikely to be helpful, as it is the permeability of the magnet in the coil that decreases as it heats up.

oh dear!!! I had this fault code last xmas, had to get my diesel pump reconditioned at a cost of £450+vat

Did your fault only occur when the engine was up to running temperature?

yeah was fine for the first 3/4/5 minutes or so then coughing, spluttering thick smoke, had a few people look at it, cost me over £1500 in the end, kept going for the cheapest option first like ya do..... in the end ran it down a garage they charge me £450+vat to have pump sent away and £200 labour, I tried everything first drained fule tank thinking it was water in the tank, new fuel lines, injectors reconed, compression test, new filters! wish id just took it to the garage in the first place :doh

Removed intercooler stripped injector no1 found large lump of grit inside injector rebuilt road tested appox25miles no problem will take for large road test on Saturday.

Is it best to replace all four at the same time? What sort of price are they?

Could it be more grit causing the problem?
If so, you will have the same problem with a new injector, but will then be £££'s out of pocket.

2 pin plug on bottom of injector pump is timing advance. unplug it and see what happens.

Last time I had seen this was on a freelander and we tried injectors and stuff and it turned out to be the pump fault code was pointing to needle lift sensor on injector 1 this was on a l series engine
