Right I'm at a loss with this..

Some of you may remember me changing the clutch master cylinder, followed by the slave and the hose ect. Giving it a full bleed ect. And doing bigbunny mod :thumb2

Today the tech said to me "Alex, why cant I move your truck" I went over to look and the clutch pedal was on the floor.. :nenau:nenau:nenau

As soon as I lifted it up it operated as per normal again...

I know when I drive I instinctively still lift the pedal after every change with my foot so don't know if it sinks all the time. I have gone out to it a few times to find it partially down but never like this.. :nenau:nenau:nenau

And suggestions guys? I thought maybe a spring but surely it either works or it doesent right...

Bleed it, thats air in the system still ;)

just had another thought, check the peddle assembly it could be cracked, its doubtfull but it could be the case, they like to break near a bolt that holds them in place

bleed it :thumb2.......also check all bleed nipples / joints are tight :thumb2

Only bleed it from under the bonnet NOT the gearbox or you will NEVER get the air out & have the engine running :thumbs

1 person inside the 4b to press & depress the pedal
&
1 person on the nipple :naughty :augie ( :doh ) :lol :lol :lol

Idiot guide

loosen nipple
press down & hold down pedal
( fluid should bubble out then shoot out once air is out )
place thumb over end of nipple
depress pedal

thumb off nipple
press down & hold down pedal
place thumb over end of nipple
depress pedal

repeat till you get a constant spurt of fluid ;) :thumbs

you dont need to keep undoing & doing up nipples when bleeding systems :thumbs

I think you meant to say... release pedal in step 4 & 8.

So...

Nipple open.
Pedal down.
Nipple closed.
Pedal up.

Repeat... :D

Keep an eye on the master cylinder level :thumb2

Alright I'll give it a go.

Are the terranos notorious for bad bleeding?the techs at my work bled it already, don't know if they had the engine running or not?

Engine running will not make any difference on the clutch.

When bleeding you will find you need to use hands on the pedal as the spring pushes it down and you then have to lift it up. That is why it drops if you leave it and do not use your toe to lift it up.

Are you loosing fluid? Do you have the damper pipe disconection mod?

sent from my phone, sorry for any typo's.

Yes I do have the damper pipe mod, and no I am not leaking any fluid, or loosing any.:thumb2

Then it has to be either a faulty flexy pipe or air. Maybe worth getting someone to check the hose as you press it down in case the new pipe is faulty.

Fair enough, I will ask someone today if they can give me a hand.

Just a bleed from the master is needed? :nenau

How to change and bleed your clutch fluid on your own.

A while back I posted this...

... I changed the Mav brake and clutch fluid.
I used a pressure device for the brakes, but it doesn't do the clutch, wrong adaptors.

1 Remove as much clutch fluid as possible using an OLD turkey baster.
2 Fill the container with new Dot 4 fluid to rinse out the resevoir, and remove using the turkey baster. ( I did this twice)
3 Fill the container with new Dot 4 fluid
4 Get a length of wood or similar and press down the clutch pedal, using the seat base to push against.
5 Open the bleed valve on the master cylinder 8mm AF spanner (attach suitable pipe and container). Close the valve.
6 Release the clutch pedal that is now still on the floor, by pulling slowly.
7 Press pedal several times then press down and hold with wood and repeat several times topping up the resevoir as required every 2-3 cycles.

8 Go under the vehicle and remove the lower tray, 6 x 6mm bolts using a 10mm AF socket. Gain access to the slave cylinder, then repeat operation on the slave cylinder as per 4 above. but using a 10mm AF open ended spanner.

Every 2-3 operations top up the resevoir.

The number of cycles depends on how dark the fluid is, I did both about 5 times. I am not aware of the clutch fluid having ever been changed ooops....

Brakes yes every 3-4 years I change the fluid.

To help getting under the Mav I use a large piece of cardboard on the floor and you can slide on this as you have to keep going underneath to do the task.
Clearly much easier with 2 people.

Keep a spray bottle of water handy to wash off any brake fluid splashes, DO NOT USE A CLOTH, as you will wipe the paint off as well

As a precaution I hosed off the areas exposed to the risk of brake fluid splases, brakes, tyres under the bonnet etc
It's amazing where this stuff gets, despite covering the area with newspaper.
It is mostly flicks from the plastic hose on the bleed screws as you tighten them while still attached.

It took far longer to write this than actually do the job....
