The other thread details actions to date, but to recap: ABS light on the dash came on, computer says drivers side front sensor the problem. Replaced it, light still on.

Further analysis has thrown up the following...

Before the light comes on there is a clicking whirring noise from behind the dash, this noise lasts a few minutes then there is a click and the noises stop but the abs light comes on. This all starts in much the same circumstances: When the car is accelerating fast (as fast as a T2 can!) OR when pulling away firmly from stationary when the car is pointing uphill. There is a certain place near our house where you have to pull out of a side road onto a main road, it's quite a steep incline and you need to join the main road quickly as it's on a blind bend, so you tend to floor it. The noise/light ALWAYS comes on here.

So, this habit to come on under hard accelerating and when pulling away uphill has bought us to the G sensor, has anyone had issues with this part before?

I know it's meant to assist the car with decelerating but I'm thinking if it's faulty it might cause a problem when accelerating. Anyone any views on this theory?

All help appreciated.

Hi baskie gardener cars again have similar problems as you have bought a second hand g sensor and fitted it have still got the same problem have removed it from the car and am now in the process of stripping it.have enclosed my e mail address if you want you can send me your phone number and we can dicuss it in more detail and see if we can resolve this problem between [email protected] GC.

Thanks for that, I'll be in touch.

I have spoken with the foreman of one Nissan garage and he says without fail it's almost always a wiring fault, he told me to remove the intercooler, look for a black wire loom, in it will be a pink/purple wire, this is the wire that goes, but I'm not convinced: There is a point in my journey home where if the fault has not occurred yet, it always occurs here. The point in the journey is where a B road meets a main road it's like doing a hill start, but you need to give it some gas as the road your joining is on a blind bend, how can faulty wiring know to go at exactly the same spot?

This points me to the G-Sensor, but I'm going to get a 2nd opinion this afternoon and so will report back then.

Well I have had it confirmed by two Nissan service managers, the fault will be the pink/purple wire that sits within a larger black wire (loom perhaps?) that breaks at the point it runs under the intercooler. One of the dealers went so far as to quote me a price and say if it didn't fix the problem they won't charge! I'm guessing for them to say that they must be pretty confident.

I asked why it only occurs when accelerating, he reply? Who knows!

I can't get the car in for the fix for a week or so yet so if you try it and find it works, let me know.

Hi baskie the clunk clicking or whatever we may call it happens on mine when i accelerate hard or decelerate if i am braking at the same timeit feels like abs has cut in if i get time will have a look at wiring tomorow and it happens on the same stretch of road as i start my journey had a mess about with spare g sensor today but to no avail will keep in touch

If it is the wire in the loom, it could be caused by the intercooler rubbing the loom, this rubbing may occur when heavy loading of the engine moving on it's mounts.

Bloody hell, sounds like we have exactly the same issue!

Todate...

Brake de-build, clean and rebuild (plus a few other bits) £160.
New sensor: £205.
Fitting new Sensor plus further diagnosis work as this didn't cure the problem: £100.

I'm not even going to add that up, considering all the problem might be is a 10p bit of wire.

Where's my red wine ;-)

Let me know how you get on, I won't get the time to look myself til the weekend and will report back then.

Regards

Steve

Oh dear, sorry to hear that.

I'm going to have a look at mine this weekend, if I find the same as you I'm wasting no more time on it and the car will be into the main dealer.

I'll let you know how I get on this weekend.

Just checked back with the garage that told me the wire colour, it's the pink/blue one. Either he said the wrong one in the first place or I misheard him, but when asked for the colour again, he said it's pink/blue.

He said just trace this cable back as far as you can in each direction from the point behind the intercooler, cut it and replace, this should fix the problem. He says the break is always around this area.

Hope this helps.

I'm still chuckling that the Nissan Slowerrano has even got such a thing as a G-sensor!:)

Got it from JonathanM off here, came with a K&N (?) air filter.

Well worth the money. Much more power and better MPG. To overtake now just put foot down, no having to build up speed and get your timings right.

Had a death in the family (not close family as such) over the weekend so never got the time to have a look. Did you have any further luck?

I'm thinking I might just take it to the main dealer!
