Help, Alarm/locking!

Hello again, this is my second thread and I only joined several days ago so will be getting my moneys worth already!

I haven't owned my truck for long and the problem has got slowly worse, so that I am now struggling every time which is why I am sending this cry for help. Odd things are happening, so I have named the truck 'Herbie'

1/ The alarm randomly goes off, it only does one round and is then silent but this is still a problem if in the middle of the night.

2/ Initially it was only every handful of times but now nearly every time you start the ignition the central locking locks all the doors.

3/ When unlocking using the key fob sometimes it takes 6-8 attempts, as every time you unlock, it then locks straight away. Yesterday, I had to physically hold open the door lock so that it didn't immediately lock again and I could get inside.

4/ If you use the key to unlock the alarm sounds, so I tried unlocking using the key fob so that the alarm is unactivated and then to only lock and unlock using the key but the alarm still arms and goes off when you unlock, is this normal??

5/ Like many people I only have one key fob, so I need to organise getting a spare but I am not techincally minded in anyway so not as handy as many people on here so I will probably have to save up and go the expensive route.

I am aware of the switch on the dash to stop the internal sensors, as I use that with my dog in the car. However, this doesn't stop any of the problems listed above.

So, it 'Herbie' either doesn't want to let me in, or once I am in doesn't want to let me out!!

Any ideas would be brilliant, but PLEASE keep it simple as I am a real girl about this sort of thing and I can't even programme the video recorder at home (yes I did say video).

try this, its what CHASTER did to sort his out.

Go round ALL door locks and squirted WD40 via the little red tube into EVERY keyhole , any orifices near door locks any slits near locks. Gave each door lock area a real good blasting and then went round again for good measure.
Result ; after thoroughly excercising all handles and locks with remote and manual switches, all is well and has been for last year or so. Hope my luck holds out. Wishing you well.:thumbs


whats your fob look like,. could be the "LITTLE" switches in the fob playing up as to why you have to try it a few times. ebay do repair kits. but youll need to get some one with a soldering iron to change them, as VERY small and fiddly.

Sorry now I asked on your other post what the problem with the central locking was. Don't think there is any alarm in mine and haven't had anything that strange happen with the central locking so can't be of much help. Had some prolems with unlocking the doors with the key fob but that has been ok since disconnecting the battery briefly fairly recently and reconnecting it.

hi.. their was another chap on here with the same problem as yours not sure if he managed to sort it out.. it will be int he posts someware if you fancy a look! my jeep had same problem with going of at night

(i must move a lot in my sleep :naughty) and it was the sensor inside the truck! your alarm go off at night if you turn the sensors off?? like if you have a dog in the car! other than that sorry would have no ideas what could be troubling herbie.... just think of him as one of the horses can have a mind of his own some times!

I had a similar problem with my locks, Rachel. It turned out to be the back door that was causing the problem - the little rubber-covered switch that pushes in when the door is closed wasn't making good contact when the door was shut (you can find it if you open the back door - it's a push-in switch down at the bottom right on the body). I stuck one of those adhesive pads that go on the feet of furniture legs to the back door, to make a better connection when the door shuts, and that seemed to do the trick.

I had a similar problem with my locks, Rachel. Was about to suggest that - honest! - and there are similar switches on all the doors, usually at the bottom.

What you describe does sound like a problem contact in one of them....it would explain not just the spurious locking/unlocking but the alarm going off as well..... might need an auto-electrician (or a "useful little man") to have a go at it.....

I was on caravan site few years ago and a Chap's wife lockedthe keys in the car with the engine running..:doh Although he was unpleasant to her it did not solve the problem!! He asked if any one could gain entry to his new mondeo but as these now have dead locks n sh!t the coat hanger would not work..
He was about to break the drivers side window to gain access.. Whooa!! I let him know that it was a lot cheaper to break the rear 1/4 light than the main drivers side window... Agood day was had by most!!!!!!:clap

I have sprayed the locks with WD40, put a new battery in the key fob and checked the sensors on the bottom of the doors but this doesn't seem to be the problem as it is still playing up. I wondered about disconnecting the battery to see if this will reset things, but wanted to ask if anyone thought this is worth a try and how long do you leave it unconnected for, also if it will it effect anything like the radio??

I think I have no choice but to take to an auto electrician, as 'Herbie' is playing up everytime now so really does need some TLC from someone in the know.

youll need the radio code, if you dont have it, BEFORE you disconnect the battery ask NISSAN if they have the code, should be on there computer..

always worth a try - ten minutes should do it.

If its a Nissan stereo it should be OK as they recognise the are in the right car these days - aftermarket stereo might lose its coding.....

Problem could as easily be a water leak in the loom somewhere - I had a brand new 5-series BM a few years ago that used to randomly lock itself while you were driving along (they made it a feature on some cars later LOL but it was slightrly unnerving to say the least!).

Any time I disconnected my battery for a short while when doing a bit of work I didn't have any problem with the radio or other settings. Only thing different was the time clock was out by the amount of time the battery had been disconnected. Easy to reset that.
