hi,
many warn of main gear box, but frankly its over rated, the warning
that is. in 4 years on here handful of issues.
test failures include rear belt mount corrison from rear wheel arch.
suspension bushes, ok all motors eventually wear, but the drop links
on the front anti roll bars are reasonably common. done ours twice
now, but maybe offroad abuse doesnt help.
usually mine fails on emmisoions but a bottle of injector cleaner and
a bit of a thrash sorts!
like any motor with viscous fan can run cold, many change stat but
may really be just an airlock as ours was like a fridge to start with.
newer models, think around 99 with electronic odometer can be
iffy. search the mechanical threads. biggest iddue for most is how
to get more lift out of front suspension, either back oem or more
for bigger tyres, oh and the constant mpg queries!

Hi, and welcome,
look out for rusting around rear seat belt anchorage points,
rusting sills usually by back wheel
anti roll bar drop links
heater blower working on setting 4 only.(easily fixed)
These are things that ive found since owning. but without doubt the best 4x4 xfar.

I had loads wrong with mine but all fixed now with help from here:thumbs and well worth it. All mainly neglect so look for one with service history and take it off road and try the 4x4 mine was broken although the nice man said it was fine. I love mine it does all the things I need it to on and off road and towing and it is nice to be in too (UNlike my old cold noisey landrover)Good luck with the search:thumbs

Craig welcome to the fold.
You'll not go far wrong in getting a T2, they're great value, a good workhorse with enormous carrying/towing capability. They're a comfortable 'car type' ride, much better, in my opinion, than, for example, the Shogun.
I've had my '96 2.7 TD lwb (non intercooler) over a year and just love the beast. I had a gearbox problem at 120k miles and bought a recon for £750, so beware, it is not an uncommon problem with the T2, (there are many threads on the subject). Good hunting.

Hi,
Welcome, I hated my Maverick when I first got her, I really do apprieciate her now...its superb for towing, great for off roading (we have so many unadopted roads, & 4x4 tracks) & towing a horse box, it is easy, yet worrying to forget you are towing 2 ponies (scary!!)
