Currently broken down at side of the road awaiting recovery.

Oil everywhere under the bonnet due to the dip stick top being broken off.

Before I stopped I lost power then the engine rev'd its balls off just as it broke out in a right old smoke:eek:

I managed to stop it by stalling it into gear.

Any ideas?

sounds like engine runaway, lucky you stalled it or it would have revved til it blew up

runaway can result from oil supplied by failure of the oil seals in a turbocharged diesel engine.

Can a turbo be serviced? Or is it a replace?

Do you want me to contact James to see if he has any turbo's off at the moment and how much he wants?

I could collect as I'm popping up this week and could post for you?

That would be good please. Where abouts r u? Im 20 mins from cov.

Ok now I know how this happened:doh:doh:doh:hmh

It seems that I have urrrrrrrr over filled the oil:doh:augie

So my understanding is the oil has gone up some kind of pipe to the turbo into the fuel side via air intake causing the engine to "run away" as it is fuels by engine oil.

I believe that I can drain oil and refill to the correct level :augie

Then start the motor and it should start fingers crossed and it will smoke awhile until it it all clears OR the engine is buggered and it will go bang when started.

I will be in the hands of the gods:bow

Any advice gratefully received.

If you are concerned about excess residual oil in the cylinders, pop the glow plugs out and spin it on the starter for a short while before starting.

yep have done this myself before on an old motor to clear it out, still smoked for a bit.......long time after though :lol

James is going to see if he has any off and will get back to me with a price

I'm in Wednesbury in the week (M6 J9) but in Solihull on the weekends so we could easily meet :thumb2

Let me know how you get on with the oil drain before we commit to a new turbo

as said no emissions test on the old derv just a smoke test, change the air filter and give the truck a good run and all should be fine

Got the T2 running today. A little smokey but is clearing. Just a little rattle from somewhere. Will have to see if its a long term issue.

Thanks for all your assistance. :clap:clap

+1

Scary stuff

That sounds like run on to me too, most likely a turbo fault of some sort.
ur lucky u stalled it, my vectra did that & I'd never heard of it b4 it happened to me, filled Glasgow city centre with smoke, pulled over, turned off, still going thought Wtf & phone police & fire brigade, the engine was still going then went bang! Water & oil all over the place & one dead vectra.

Mr says to take off turbo hose, put ur finger on middle section of propellers & if there's movement (other than in circles) then it's gubbed. Engine off obviously lol

Keep us posted mate, £80 for a turbo but James doesn't have any off at the moment for your year

Just been out in it. Bit smokey and seems like it is misfiring. Did get upto 70mph in it but just seemed gutless. May need some injector cleaner through it.
