Heavy blue smoke when revved up

Just seen there was low oil in the new terrano topped it up to halfway and now blue smokes when revved up we had thought we had seen it blue smoking at the odd times. When it blue smokes it misses and pours it out the exhaust I think turbo bearings are letting oil seep into the inlet and then burns the oil when revved up. It's a 1996 terrano 2.7 diesel turbo tdi

Yep most likely, I'd have a peak into the turbo.

Be careful when running it as the engine may start fueling itself from the oil leading to the engine running away.

a run away engine had that before think my rover 75 went from 115bhp to about 500bhp one set of nearly soiled trouses and a hell of a smelling clutch I finaly got it to stop

Turbo cartridge cheap enough :thumb2 Bit of a pain to split though. 3 or 4 hours maybe less if the exhaust bolts come off tidy :thumb2

One of my exhaust housing to centre cartridge bolts snapped when I took mine apart for a rebuild Cue drill and helicoil!
Had a Megane engine run away after I'd fitted a new turbo due to the oil residue in the system. Very brown trousers time. For those that don't know what this is, imagine the engine suddenly goes and stays full throttle. What do you do? You have about 2 seconds to decide before something goes pop! Happened to me when I was changing up so I changed in to 5th and slammed on the brakes to stall the engine.

Always worth a test run with new turbo without all the air filter gubbins attached. That way if you do get a run away you just through a rag in the turbo allegedly :freak3:

Quick thought...

What oil are you putting in, 15 w 40 is probably best, or 10 w 40

If you are using thinner oil, it will consume it at a high rate.

I've seen a couple of runaway diesels, horrendous noise, huge clouds of smoke and either a wet fart or a loud bang at the end, one was a huge generator that seemed to rev forever until it literally went off with a bang and blew a big hole in the block.

I put 10 wat 40 in it my rover 75 was stalling cold and when I removed the inlet it gushed oil up like a hose. I will find the vid and upload that one that was caused by my high pressure pump seals letting go and letting diesel slowly filling the sump over time.

Sorted changed oil had been given wrong grade in the tub so got right stuff and it seems ok now
