Advce wanted please = I know that there are a number of practically minede and experienced guys on this forum.

I have a garage with an old metal heating oil tank in it. I want to get it out of the garage. Problem is - it's twice as wide as the door. So I need to cut it in half.

I've drained it as well as I can. I was thinking of putting a few inches of water into it and then cutting it up with my disc cutter.

Do'ya think this is a sound plan? Is there a danger of fire?

Cheere in advance.

You would think a good rinse with water would do it but TAKE CARE' only last week a report of a death caused caused by some one cutting an oil drum with an angle grinder to make a barbeque and there was an explosion! I am sure someone will be along soon with advice. Regards. Bri.

in the past I have cut the top off a many derv tank and welded it back with oxy acetylene, never had any problems, but if this tank had kerosene in it (normal heating oil) its flash point is a lot lower, so I would fill it to the brim then cut the top first, if using a petrol disc cutter just carry on down the sides assuming the water draining will not be a problem, if it is then drain it/pump it out and carry on, with the top cut and the flap/fill point open there will not be any risk, although I am sure some elf and safety person will say otherwise, Rick

Ricks advice sounds good to me, I'd def fill to top and let it overflow, leave a day or two with the windows open. Cutting down gives you the least volume of vapour to have a problem with. Don't do it when you are on your own. David.

Thanks for the advice......

...doing it next week.

So - if you hear a loud explosion coming from the centre of France.......
