Here’s the location of the heater resistor, it’s above the passenger side footwell right at the back just above where the carpet finishes against the bulkhead. The resistor is the item with the brown connector in the photo below. Disconnect the plug with ignition turned off and the two screws are cross heads, watch the screws don’t fall behind the carpet. I found it easier to use a short stubby screw driver.

When the resistor has blown the heater blower only works on number 4 setting. Normally it is the thermal cut out that has corroded, attempts have been made to solder a bridge across the thermal cut out but you have to ask yourself if this is safe as it is a safety feature. There is a workshop in the downloads regarding replacing the resistor with one from a Nissan Almera. Often the problem with the thermal cut out going faulty is partly to do with poor air flow due to a blocked pollen filter, again a workshop can be found in the download section.

Jim,

Very greatly appreciated....I have a new pollen filter on order.

So, armed with this excellent picture, and the two relevant downloads, I will tackle this with greater confidence.

Thank you :bow :bow

Hmmm... Great picture, but I notice something is missing????

Where is the picture of the blocked pollen filter that caused it??? :augie

Jim,

Well a brief update....spent the morning sorting SWMBO's Renault window problem, with new module and splicing in a new plug.

Then tackled the replacement pollen filter, and locating and checking the blower resistor.

With your pictures and guidance, located it, removed it, checked it and found one of the elements burnt through. I did venture a solder repair, but to no avail, no worries, as I ordered a replacement part to arrive at the end of the week.

Repositioned the old one to at least give me No.4 on the blower, so will sort it at the next weekend...huge thank you.....:thumb2 :thumb2 :thumb2 :bow

Have a good New Year.

Kindest regards

Okay folks,

Another update on this topic, with what I think, is an interesting comparison....

I have hopefully attached a picture, showing the blown blower motor resistor, on the LEFT, and the new out of box, replacement that arrived this morning, on the RIGHT.

I thought that I would present this, and understand that these have an obvious flaw, in the same location, that has been hopefully resolved in the replacement........:nenau....but has it.....

This is by appearances a brand new unit, yet the solder joint/bridge looks like a workshop bodge. I expected the replacement to be identical to the original......or is it a real attempt to remedy the fault that happens in this location......perhaps under the solder, is a resistor of higher rating.....?

I am going to fit it, and let's hope it is okay......:nenau

Interesting, well firstly I’m sure it’ll work.

I have to agree with you it does look like a repaired item. I’ve had a look at my old one and confirmed there isn’t a seal where it attaches to the heater box so the seal must be on thenheater box. Where the screws fit only slight marks whic would probably clean off. The only place I can see that it is impossible to remove any signs of previous use is the terminals, they look like male spade connectors for want of a better description and the plug being female. There is definitely marks from the connections.

Where did you get the replacement part, if ebay would you mind posting a link please as I’ll probably not buy from them though I’m sure others will be at the same trick.

This went on my Patrol, very simple circuit, one of the resistor looking components is actually a heat fuse, this had gone open circuit on mine, so I ordered a pack of 5 from Farnell for about £1.00 and I also changed out the fet for a newer faster switching one meaning the whole thing will run cooler. Was still going strong 8 months later when I sold the vehicle.

Kind regards

Russell.

In fairness the photo on eBay shows the blob of solder exactly like yours, maybe it’s a low melting point solder or ordinary solder that is actually capable of melting away if there’s a problem. My old truck that got written off ran for about 3 years with a repaired resistor that I bridged with solder. Although not ideal chances are it’s fine.

I have contacted the seller in regard to this solder bridge, and await a reply. As soon as one is forthcoming, I will copy it into this thread.

In fairness, having foraged through these items in fbay, quite a few seem to have this solder bridge. The only ones that don't, and claim to be Terrano replacements, rather than Almera fits, seem to source from northern European countries ......:nenau
