I'm honestly not convinced, FB? Even with the radiator blanked with carpet the temperature gauge stayed bang in the middle. I'm down to my last two options though, before it goes into a garage to be sorted, and that's the matrix, and pump . . . . I can just feel it sucking the life out of me now  :nenau :lol:lol

Once it's sorted, you should have a fine truck for a few years.
Just took mine to the local dump with a kingsize bed inside and on the roof
Not used the car for a while, but still smile at the power these trucks have. Put your foot down and it's away like a scolded cat :D

Its cold in the north

My thoughts are is the vehicle being over cooled perhaps you need a hotter stat fitted , have you checked the temp gauge , when running at normal temp the bottom of the rad should be warm and the top hot if you have a infared thermomitor check the bottom of the rad if cold

Last week i was the highlands it was cold and the windchill factor as worse
-2 in scotland 13+ in hastings today

Block off the rad and try it but i am sure if you left it ticking over all day it it wont over heat its going to be something simple
When i worked for the local bus company it was hell trying to get the buses warm and people happy

That's entirely possible, Mav! The matrix was thoroughly-flushed in both directions when I changed the coolant, but that's not to say any obstruction couldn't re-occur (especially if it's perhaps debris from deteriorated impeller vanes, or a piece of scale or similar) First check tomorrow is going to be another matrix flush. I can do this without dropping all the coolant, so it makes sense to eliminate that as a potential cause. If it runs free, then my theory of reduced pump performance gains credence. The pump's getting changed regardless though.

I've eliminated the obvious, so it's now only the not-so-obvious that can be the cause of it :doh

We'll get there

have you tried taking off return heater pipe and see water coming out of end when hot, watch hands, then put back on,used to do this on a lot of cars.

First thing tomorrow I'm going to warm the truck up and swap over the inlet and outlet hoses to the matrix. If things improve then it'll give me an indication the matrix is blocked. Not sure why I didn't think of trying that before

Well, that's the pump swapped out. Not much wrong witht he old one, right enough. Fair bit of end-float on the bearing though, so it was as well to change it. Matrix is clear, all pipes running free, too.

However! :D

I noticed a few crystaline 'flakes' on the back face of the pump, and also happened to notice intermittent flow to the heater matrix so ran some Holts Speedflush through the system. I'm wondering if there's been some 'floating' obstruction as Mav mentioned earlier . . . . .

Heater's back as it should be now, so I'll wait & see if that's cured it. If it starts playing up again, it can go into a garage for a proper seeing to :thumb2

Thanks to everyone for your advice :thumb2

Apart from the smartarses who suggested just switching on the heated seats. Thanks for rubbing it in as mine don't work. Barsterds :lol :lol :lol

Awesome!!!!!!! You're not home and dry yet though but I really hope that it stays fixed for you :thumb2

I don't fancy a dashboard out job!!!!!

glad its sorted again, :thumbs wait n see time. as another thought crossed my mind (I have them occasionally) have you or maybe previous owner used a rad weld or the like as some do more harm than good :nenau

but here's hoping its going to be ok

Not to my knowledge. I replaced the coolant with fresh stuff a few weeks ago. Guess maybe there was a gremlin kicking about that I didn't squash. Hopefully it's sorted now though. It's actually hotter now than it's ever been, so maybe whatever was restricting the flow just took a bit of fettling to flush away. It was a headscratcher, for sure

Fingers crossed for ya:thumb2

Weather looked good up at Tayside today so at least you were not being rained on working on ya truck.

Sounds like the waterpump would of given problems in the near future anyway.

Thanks JT :thumb2 The water pump was niggling at me anyway, so at least I have the peace of mind that it's been replaced :)

I was up early to get cracking in case of any problems & the weather was crap early on. Just as I finished the job the sun came out, lol! Just one of those immutable laws of DIY mechanics, isn't it?

At least the snow & ice had cleared!!!
