Just a quick question or two...

It was a bit chilly this morning, so I thought I'd switch the old heated seat on. Didn't feel any change in temperature on the drivers or passengers seat. Listened to the engine at tickover and the revs didn't change when I switched them on. I thought that I might hear a drop in revs as the heated seats kicked in.

So... maybe they are not working?

What are the common faults? Maybe strange that both are not working, so relay or fuse? The lights on the buttons work.

I'm now off to search the forum :thumb2

Switched mine on this morning and got the same. I gave the switch several hard rocks and then I felt it warming. So although the lights work maybe had dust/dirt in there. Plus I haven't used them since probably the beginning of the year.

Good grief... Heated Seats, Air Con, Sun roof, and Side Steps.... what is the world coming to.... You'll be wanting Same car marriages soon...:lol:lol

So, about these heated seats.... where do I get them?:thumbs

Well just checked and there is power to both heated seat switches ign on. Power out of the switches on both low and high setting. Power to the under seat connectors and continuity through the seat elements.

So how long does it take to heat up and do you really feel a difference?

What do I check now?

Not sure on the T2, as I have never had the heated seats, but on the Volvo's, there was a small round thermostatic switch mounted in the seat, which would go super sensitive, and either switch off too early, or switch off when you sat in the seat. They cost a bomb from Volvo, but you can find almost the same switch on Ebay, RS, Farnell for much less, you just need to mod the connections, as they come out 90degrees different.

Also, if you can, have your volt meter connected across the connector, and try switching the seats on and off, you should see a volt drop when they come on, if they are actually working properly.

I put my volt meter across the battery and there was a drop in volts when I switched on each heated seat, not by much mind...

If there is a volt drop, it implies they are doing something. Only real way to tell, is to measure the current, but I would think it is quite high, and over the scope of the average multi meter.

Maybe they just need a bit longer to warm up. While I think on it, on the Volvo, there was a pressure switch, so that if no-one was sitting in the passenger seat, even if the heater was turned on, it did not warm up.

Are they covered in the manual? I could not see any mention... :augie

It's not instant heat but I defo feel it and glad it works cos leather seats are kin cold. And on the odd occasion I've been in the passenger seat, I've felt that one work too. The missus says she can't feel anything and they're rubbish! She does have a bigger bottom thought ;) just sayin... Might have something to do with it.
Also not sure if there's some kind of thermostat which stops them working above a certain temp. I've noticed a switch been turned on by accident but haven't felt the seat get warm?

Just now timed it on the school run and within 2 mins I felt like I'd wet myself :-S

Well after about a mile into the school run, my buttocks/lower back began to feel warm, toasty after another mile. So looks as if my jiggling switches and connectors worked :thumb2

Don't know if the passenger seat works, but who cares, I won't be sitting there :augie

Both mine work a treat.....in-18C, they are defo not a luxury item.....but they have to be sat on to work.....I suppose some sort of pressure switch or making of circuit.....:nenau
