hi guys,

the maverick im buying has a few minor niggles that i want to put right when i collect it and one of these is the heat shield underneath apparently 'rattles' when the engine is running. is there anyway to repair or remove it?

i know it has to be on for when you go off road, but here in kent, the most off roading the mav is gonna see is when i pull onto my drive!

cheers, simon

its probably a bolt thats rusted off, which heat shield does the seller mean? either way, in the past all I have done is tie it up with cable ties, or wire if I wasnt able to drill out a new bolt hole.

i think its one underneath the car (can i call it a car lol). yeah, ill just get some jubilee clips and see what i can bodge up.

cheers for the info though mr c!

you might find a couple of heat shields. as an example, on my Mazda, I have an almost full length heat shield on the exhaust, and various heat shields on the engine. on my MAv, I have one behind the exhaust, cat and i THINK on top of the silencer, theres also the mud guard as well, my old Fourtraks mud guard used to rattle! I suppose just having a look around with a decent lamp will reveal all!

I got a similar tinkle, second time now. Check the front pipea few inches towards the back of the car from the flexi joint there is a bracket that has a u clamp around the pipe. The u clamp seems to come loose or in my case the bracket has broken this time.
