Like it very mucho!!!!! Wish I could get hold of a piece of that space blanket insulation, flipping costly stuff is that.

Underlying fault?

Yes there will be something wrong.

I had a clutch replacement last year on my older (02) truck and although it was a fairly priced reasonable job, after it came back there was very hot air coming in around the gearstick and lower cubby hole area, just like yours. The garage swore it hadn't left anything off underneath and I sort of resolved it by fitting a load of foil and insulation where you have put that silver stuff, but it was definitely the fault of something being busted or left off.......I couldn't be arsed to crawl underneath to investigate.

well, it had a new heavy duty clutch fitted along with a gaerbox about 4 weeks ago. i thought heat was from the engine as the heat gets more intense when the engine gets to the right temp:nenau seems to run ok

Bit of a coincidence eh? I can tell you from having owned five of these trucks that it ISN'T normal....only ever had it on this truck and ONLY after the clutch was done, so I suspect something was left off or misaligned....my cubby hole got so hot on a long run I could barely touch it.

But buggered if I can work out what the garage might have done.

I can't suggest what's at fault BUT I run mine with no carpets or sound proofing muck. So I can tell for sure if any thing is leaking :augie As far as heat is concerned, well there isn't any :D
So I conclude something's wrong
