Right finally got them both working but it's not a permanent solution. I have had to run a wire from the top connector on the passenger side headlight to the same one on the drivers side, this now gives me all my lights back. I cant for the life of me find the fault as there is power to the light but it wont illuminate without this "bridge" not sure how safe it is or how long it will last but until i can sort it out properly it will do. i'm open to any other suggestions.

When you say there is power to the light without the bridge, sounds like a bad connection to the bulb where it slides on or a bad earth.

With the power from the wire that goes to the bulb check the connector often the the pins do not make contact with the end of the bulb.

1. Pull the connector off and see if you get power from the pins in the connector to the bulb buy using some insulated wire.

2. Then try the same wire to the bulb without going through the connector,( where the wire goes into the connector not the bulb side)

Hopefully this will work out if it's the connector.

it won't be the connector itself but the 'terminal' that's attached to the end of the wire which just clips into the plastic. i have just had a similar prob on a relay - the wire and terminal had corroded away it looked like the cable still went into the connector and looking from the other end the terminal could still be seen and was secure. gentle pulling of the wire showed it wasn't attached to anything. just removed what was left of the terminal fitted a new one onto the wire - refitted into connector. all works:clap

worth a try

hi guys, i have taken the terminals out from the socket and they seem well secure? all i can think is that the wire is damaged somewhere in the loom. my bridge wire is still working at the mo so when i have more time i'll investigate further. One thing i have noticed is that the connector block on the passenger side is pretty melted like at some point it has had a really powerful bulb in and got very hot! although it all works on that side. probably gonna be best to put new ones on at some point :)

Ah ha
Ok if you replace your burnt connector I wouldn't mind betting that might fix the other side,as the wire could be the loop system and where it is burnt out might be a connector/ wire there causing the problem if you get my drift ;)
