Hi Guys
new problem today, drivers side dipped beam stopped working, put new bulbs in still no dipped beam. Side & main perfect any ideas cos im stumped with lectrics :(
cheers in advance

pull back the rubber cover, check to see if wire is on there still, I had to solder mine back a while ago.... same kind of fault id think..

also swop bulbs side to side. make sure its not a duff bulb before you fo to far looking for another fault...

Check fuse and all conections to the unit. Pay particular attention to the earth And manke sure all wires are concted to their terminals and the terminals are clean.

As Zippy said, do check the bulb is a good one first. It would not be the first time I have pulled a duff bulb from a brand new box then spent hours looking for a fault that didn't exist

tried several bulbs and even swapped L to R no change. Checked fuses all good so it looks like a weekend with the multimeter and a soldering iron :doh oh well these things happen. which of the terminals provides the dipped beam with juice?

will look when i get home...

no car here to look at work.. and cant really pop the hood to look in work time, they are funny like that.. cant see why thought.....

As you said the dipped beam is gone I'm presuming the main beam is working. If main beam is working or there is otherwise power to the connector / fitting the bulb is pushed in to it may just be a problem with wires or the plastic connector itself. Plastic Connector on mine had broken inside the rubber cover and dipped beam would not work. Had to cut bits off the connector and tape things back together as a temporary fix. Sorry I don't know offhand which of the wires going into the connector is for the dipped beam but should be easy enough to figure out.

headlamp relays

There are 2 relays for the dip beam, the one for the r/h headlamp is on the side of the drivers foot well just in front of the drivers door(behind panal), the l/h one is on the other side of the car (same location) see w/s manual download ex zippy.

struggling to find the r/h side ones? are they not the ones on the fuse box? I have taken the kick panel off drivers side and they dont appear to be there?

mines different to that i had a look drivers side under the panel and theres no relays? just the four on the bottom of the fuse board!
its a 1996 maverick by the way, not sure if that makes a difference?

passenger side i have a rear window wiper relay a washer relay and what i think is the l/h headlight relay (its blue) on the driver side i have a big black box ? and what looks like a buzzer? then i have 4 relays under the fuse box, but still no r/h relay. Im starting to think there isnt one!!!! this is sending me spare now i just need my lights back!!!! :doh:doh:doh

Only have one relay on mine (1995) its the one with the blue plug passangers side i would guess your problem is the switch as ive sold quite a few of those.

I would say switch aswell, went though 2 of them on the old Mav, in the end rewired the 2 h/lights to 2 relays useing a derect live from the batt & used the live from the working h/light to trigger the relays.

though there probably was only one as ive looked everywhere. better see if i can get a switch, will i need the whole stalk? and is it easy to change?
cheers for all the help guys :thumbs

On my 1995 Maverick 2.7TD, the dip headlights are wired in series when on side lights only,(during ignition on) if yours is the same it could be the relay responsible for this. Worth a thought.
