Driving to Brittany in July, can I fit a pair of stick on headlamp converters or is it a dealer adjustment?
Cheers.

if i remeber rightly and without getting a torch to check
there should be a pattern on the lense which deflects the beam to the left
this needs to be blocked out to that shape even if you use pvc insulation tape. in france you were supposed to have yellow headlamps not sure if that still stands but you can get a lens paint or change your bulbs
but i would check that out with a motoring organisation if your a member
hope this helps

White lights are ok in France, and I use insulation tape on the headlights on the fluted part to the left of centre when looking at the headlights from the front.
Park about 6 feet from say a garage door (at night) and you can see the effect on the beam.
hope this helps..

headlamp

Hi there is a pattern on the glass on which you can stick tape although I use stick on deflectors which I have used on different cars. The french dont use yellow head lights any more. Note... british credit cards dont work in French auto fuel pumps which means you cant buy fuel from supermarkets on a sunday... regards bri

i did say i was not sure if yellow light still stood in france

but i knew other members would

hi maidstonemike
An idea i had a while back, get a couple of clip-on light protectors from one of the 4x4 people and stick the (beam benders)
to these you then only have to travel 4/5 time to recover the cost.
If you use beam benders they deflect the light to the correct side, big bonus the don't reduce the light

In Europe get them out the boot clip them on. back home arrive in dover un-clip and put away till next time.....

I wonder......
Has anybody ever seen black tape or beam benders on any of the french cars ( or any European cars) coming over the channel....?

I have never seen them and I have never seen them for sale in Calais.

I'll check next time we are over there..
I'll arrive with an empty tank and fill up, (Diesel is cheaper than UK but petrol can sometimes be more expensive though..)

Hmmmm...

The continental cars dont need tape as their lights only dip up and down not towards the kerb like ours, or so I understand.....just another thing that makes us, different from them...bri

Spot on Bri, they don't use a handed beam as we do, we need the beam convertors becuase otherwise there is a big portion of our beam going left & directly towards oncoming traffic! I also understand that army vehicles come with these flat lenses fitted.

On my 2001 (in response to the original post) there are no real markings to id where to stick masking tape. We've used 9bought cheap from Aldi) the stick on silver jobbies, where you position them according to individual make & model of car, on the T2 it is in a position just to the left of & slightly below of the shroud visible through the headlamp when viewed from the front. Also the instructions for those state they need to be fitted directly to lens, not headlamp covers, probably a clever sales ploy though as opposed to any reason why DAvemuds suggestion wouldn't work.

Got to sort these out for an X-trail soon though!
