morning all
have got a suspected head gasket failure ,when the engine is running the expantion tank is filling right up temp guage going up .
does this point to a gasket problem??
also what do i do about fixing a leaking diesel pipe up near the rear driver side wheel ? seen you can buy clear or rubber fuel pipes and replace the leaking section??
any ideas on the size cause i have nt got the mistral at my house to measure?

thanks dave

i would say thats the hg gone tbh did the same as mine

i would get the whole length of pipe replaced tbh easier than trying to joint it

is there oil in the water in your expansion tank ?

I am probably wrong but I would have thought the expansion tank filling up may be a thermostat issue especially with the temp guage going up too :nenau

But like I said...............I am probably wrong :doh

Hope you manage to get it sorted soon :thumb2

sorry forgot to say that its for a mistsal not a x trail .
Is there a guide for doing the gasket? And has any one else replaced any fuel lines?

FOR DIESEL LEAK SOLUTION SEE THE NEXT POST DOWN (DIESEL BLUES)
Sorry bout caps, rushing of for another 12 hour night-shift
:-(

Easy to check your gasket for blowing, remove the rad cap and expansion tank cap, put your hand over rad filler with engine running, look for bubbles in header tank if you get bubbles head gasket gone or as we found today could be cracked head, Rick

wow , it must have taken some doing to crack one of these heads

wounder how long thats gone on like that to crack the head

they didnt put an alloy one on their did they lol

Well seems to me these 2.7s are not as bullet proof as imagined, I have now seen three heads from these engines, two have had gaskets successfully changed but the third no go, all three heads have shown injector insert cracking and head cracks to exhaust valves (not quite to the seats) so my opinion is they are not bullet proof after all, time will tell, Rick

If the head gasket has gone and the head has to come off anyway, is there any benefit from modding the head:augie
Like polishing porting etc just thinking of power gains:naughty

it always happens to me!
it was mine that had the cracked head!
do you know how pissed off i feel that rick and swifty spent their whole day helping me to repair a head gasket problem and all along it was a cracked head?
i am very very very grateful to these two fella's for everything that they did yesterday to help me out.
thanks guys.
lets see what sunday brings now.

update on the mistral

head gasket replaced (there was a couple of signs of it leaking )
finished it yesterday , started up and ran better than ever (thank god)
diesel leak fixed using a longer length of rubber pipe straight from the tank

couple of questions though ...
1. how do you reduce the idle speed its running faster than before?
2 . has any one replaced the radiator fan at the front its got a couple of cracks in it and where from and how much should i pay?

Mechanical TD ? - wind back the stop screw on the pump a touch? And make sure your throttle cable has abit of free play.
