Hi,

I have just been out in the Terrano & needed to use the hazard lights, only to find they are not working! The fuse in the drivers side appears fine, the indicators work ok too.

Is this a broken switch issue? Any ideas of the problem & how to fix it it please?

Thank you for any help on this one.

Is it still the factory switch built into the radio or have you changed it? Check connections are still on back of switch maybe?

Yeah it's still the factory fit in the stereo. I know I may sound daft, but how do i remove the stereo,do you know? For my Focus you need these 'keys' to remove it,but I don't have any of those for the Terrano.

I'm new to the Terrano,so i'm learning!

If it's mounted like the older type of radio you have to remove the dash fascia surrounding it, I posted today about removing this and there is defo two screws that I can see when I remove the ashtray. I'm learning about the facelift Terrano as I've just got a 05 plate, have still got my 96 old shape too which in some ways I think is better built.

Two pieces of wire (coat hanger wire is good) about 3inches long, push them into the hole on each side of radio (you'll hear/feel them release), and pull it towards you. I push my finger into the cassette opening and give it a tug.:naughty

There will be two or three plugs in the back of the radio, depending on whether you have a cd changer or not. The hazard warning lights plug is the BROWN plug.:thumbs

Thank you for the replies guys,I'm very grateful to you all.:thumb2

I will hopefully take a look later today but failing that on Monday.

Thanks again jims-terrano & trophymick:thumbs

Hi folks,

I had the stereo out this afternoon & took a look at the plugs on the back. The brown one for the hazard lights is loser than the others, they are rock solid (white ones) & were not moving an inch!

I gave it a gentle wiggle and as I did so also kept pressing the hazard switch to see if it made any difference.....no change though.

The hazards did come on once this morning, but then not again after that! So does anybody have any ideas what it may be? I have included a picture of the back of the unit just so you could see whats what etc

Thanks for any help. :thumb2

Hi,

Does anybody have any further ideas on this one? The situation is no better & I'm lost on it!

Thanks! :thumb2

Guessing either dirty contacts,or a dodgy wire.

Mine is the same as yours, you need to push the little catches in before you try to pull out the plugs. they are under the plugs, I used a small electrical screwdriver to do mine (I have hands like shovels :lol), push in and pull at the same time, they'll come out then. :thumb2

My hazards used to come on as I was driving, tap the switch and they would go off, until it did it again.:doh This lead me to believe it was the switch at fault.

I gave the switch a spraying with electrical contact cleaner and it's been fine since.:clap

I keep meaning to fit a different radio, as my radio/cassette is goosed.
Tape doesn't work and the led display is intermittent, but the radio works fine.

Got to say it's a crap design having a hazard switch built into the sound system, it's OK while it's working, but........................:augie

Do that hazards flash when you lock the car?

Yeah they flash when you lock & unlock fine.

At one point they seemed to come on & then off again once a day (the 1st time you pushed the button)!

Sounds a lot like the same thing! Mine have not come on while driving yet, but after I have pushed the button & nothing happened (then lost track of how many pushes I made), after the doors have been locked, the hazards came on again & stayed on after the locking flash.:doh

Once the stereo is out,how did you get to the hazard switch itself, can you recall?

Thanks for the replies everybody,I'm very grateful. :thumbs

The hazard switch and wiring are integral to the radio, so you can't remove the switch.:doh
You can (carefully) take the front of the radio off, but it'll still be attached by wires. I did this to spray mine.:thumb2
You'll see the screws at the back of the front plate of the radio, be careful.

You can also make your hazards work from a separate on/off switch.

This is from the wires on the BROWN plug on the back of the radio.

Splice a wire into the green/red and another into the red/blue one. Link these via a standard switch and you have bypassed the in-radio hazard warning system and retrofitted your own.

You can then leave the brown plug out of the back of the radio, and use the on/off switch.:thumbs

Edit: I now have two hazard switches, just in case it decides to go wonky again!!!!!

If it's of any use it looks like the after market radio facia panel has a Primera (p11) hazard switch to replace the one in the radio. I've seen a thread somewhere on here where someone made their own replacement panel and switch to fit an after market radio.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply folks, partly due to forgetting to post & partly due to getting it sorted along with an auto hub!

Basically I did as above, bypassed the original failed button & put a new one in next to the steering wheel.

Thank you for everybody's help & input.:thumbs
